Ground Loops with 4CM - Already using Humbuster Cables

I had a similar issue with the FX3 in the loop of my amp. I ended up making a handful of 1/4" TS cables with the ground disconnected at one end, to help troubleshoot things like this. I tried them one at a time in the send and then return of the amp, first with the disconnected ground on the amp...

What cable to use for studio monitors?

For sure. It was mostly the OP's mention of not using microphone cables for speakers, and wanting to clarify why he's not needing speaker cables in this case :-)

What cable to use for studio monitors?

If your speakers are powered and you're just sending the audio signal to them, then XLR or TRS. I prefer XLR, which are often used as microphone cables. If both sides support XLR, then it's almost certainly going to be a balanced signal and low impedance, which is pretty ideal. TRS can do that...

    Fm3 as effects only unit

I used my Axe FX III in the loop of my half stack for years, just for effects. I could definitely see shelving an FM3 and racking it for the same purpose, if I starting gigging again with a traditional amp. There isn't much in the way of rack-mount effects these days, and I think much of that is...

Recovering data from dead SD card?

When you insert the SD card, do your computers even see that it's inserted? It's one thing if your computer detects it and just doesn't recognize the filesystem. It's another if the computers don't even realize it's been inserted.

Anybody out there running their FM3 through a ss pwr amp and guitar cab(s)?

I'm not sure how much the humbuster cables are designed to address loss, so much as ground loops. Where loss becomes a factor is when you've got high impedance running over longer lengths. The FM has low impedance balanced output, so if you're power amp has a balanced input with a higher input...

Anybody out there running their FM3 through a ss pwr amp and guitar cab(s)?

That's how I used to run my FM9. Power, wireless receiver/batteries all in the floor board. I'd had a 2u power amp and power condition in a small rack, on top of a Mojotone vertical 2x12. All I'd have to do is run an XLR from the FM to the rack. Easy peasy, and it worked great. Remove covers...

    FM9T Startup bugs

After you received the unit, did you factory reset all settings, and are you running the latest firmware? Does it start up to the same preset every time? Is it starting up with USB/MIDI devices connected?

    Development with the next firmware

Just don't update your AF3 until the equivalent firmware is out for the FM3/FM9. It's the same net effect as if FAS waited until all three were ready for release.

What is the point of SPDIF if it's just going to be converted to USB anyway?

This is what I do too. It works great! I use USB just to run Axe-Edit, but otherwise everything is SPDIF direct to my interface.

is there a new product in a near future for tube amp lovers like FX8

I also don't have any tone suck issues with my FM9 in 4CM. It did take some time though to adjust the send and return levels on my amp's loop so there was no change in color or volume when the loop is engaged. It would help to know what your signal chain looks like, and what devices are involved.

Longest time between updates for the FM3...is this it?

So wouldn't the solution be to just not update your III until the equivalent update is available for the FM3? That's the same net effect as FAS releasing updates for each concurrently. Unless you think FAS should sit on updates for the III until they have the FM3/FM9 ready. Or are you wanting...

First Fractal - FM9 would work, but temped to go for flagship

I have both an FM9 and a III. I started with the III, and that's also what I'd recommend in this case. I decided that if I was going to spend the money, I'd get the one that had the best chance of still being useful to me years later. The III has the most room for me to grow, and it's what I...

    Importing mp3's into an FM9

I used a Digitech Jamman Stereo for playing MP3s and other clips. It has a balanced out, so just another XLR feed for the sound guy. We'd use it for recorded intros, or backing tracks we couldn't cover with our existing instrumentation.

We're all gonna do a full backup BEFORE, right? ;)
