Of course it's much easier and quicker to experiment with 'simulated' tubes, by just changing the parameters in the axe. I remember messin' around with different tubes in my (real) Vox, Marshall, Fender, Soldano etc. amps. It cost me a lot of money, time and nerves(!). One of the best...

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 13.00 Public Beta

Indeed, the drive blocks sound much better with v13 ! I had drive blocks in many presets, but didn't make much use of them - the sound became too scratchy and kind of flat. With V13, I tried playing a few songs with the drive block on (after doing some tweaks) and had fun .....

I really like the AxeFX III - I have two of them. Before these, I also owned 2 Axe-FX II XL and one Axe-FX II. Almost everything is possible with the new HW/FW. On the other hand, I get a little bit tired of downloading new FW every few weeks and re-adjusting all my presets. I mean, my tube...

We got so much pressure on our ears in the 70s and especially the 80s, from 'real' amps on stage and even in the studio. I wouldn't trust them - let's say above 12 KHz .....

With reduced latency and no audio drop-outs when changing presets/scenes, you can leave axe-edit active all the time when playing. Great. Now I'm waiting for the new axe-edit release to cover the new flanger block ....
