    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

It’s not my monitoring system. I’m listening to everything (music, work, YouTube, axe fx), all through my studio monitors, in my acoustically treated studio, and everything sounds great. I will upload some comparison clips today, right now I’m backing up my axe again to try a couple more things.

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

Ok so this is an update to my previous reply to this message. I've looked into more videos that showcase stock presets or patches with default amp/cab settings. I found a few good videos, each with a different firmware, varying from v15 non-quantum, to quantum 5. Even FW15 sounded miles ahead of...

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

Thank you for trying to help. Sorry if my original post wasn’t clear, I do manage good tones, but like I said, it’s either by using tone match, or by having to use a lot of the cab features I’ve mentioned. Which seems odd to me, hence I started this thread. Thank you for the explanation, but I’m...

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

I'm on the XL+ (not the III), so I have "only" 189 factory ones. And I say "only" because I think that should be enough. Anyway, I do "find it" when I tone match, I get great tones which I've used for a few years now and over dozens of songs, both my own and others'.

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

Real is not a word to describe sound? Do you wanna search this forum for the phrase “sounds like a real amp”? Have you ever used virtual instruments? Some of them sound more real, while others sound more fake. It is most definitely a word to describe sound, specifically to describe when...

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

Alright this sounds way better than the stock cabs and doesn't seem to be fizzy like other 3rd party cabs I've tried! Like I said, I don't have any access to recordings since I can't access the studio I work at. And in my home studio I'm not using a real amp for years now, don't even own one...

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

I’m not taking about matching a specific sound, that’s very easy to do with the tone match block or even 3rd party EQ match and IR makers. I’m talking about creating a tone from scratch, without having to rely on tone matching. I’ll try to explain myself better. I’m not talking about good/bad...

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

I’ll check them out tomorrow. Like I said, all my settings are correct, so: 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes (obviously) 4. No 5. Yes

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

Studio monitors. (just for the record, same deal with headphones as well) I’ve tried some 3rd party cabs, though not many. They’re usually more on the thin/fizzy sound rather than boomy, but still bad compared to a simple mic on a cab. Same answer as the quote above :)

    Stock Cabs Don't Sound Real?

From my experience with my XL+, the stock cabs really don't work for me. They sound nothing like micing a real amp, whether I'm the one micing it, or some random guy on YouTube. The majority of the cabs are very boomy in the low end, muddy or hollow in the midrange, and fizzy on the top end...

Using Far-Field Cab IR's to fake Mid/Side Recording

Cool! Let us know how it works for you. One thing I forgot to mention is that I listen to my Axe through a pair of studio monitors (if that wasn't clear). It should work on headphones too I believe though I haven't tried it.

Using Far-Field Cab IR's to fake Mid/Side Recording

Sure thing! I took the stock preset #8 Plexi 50W Treble, stripped it out of everything other than amp/cab, and added the M/S cab thing. I also made a screenshot of the layout and the parameters for each block. Another thing I found is that increasing the L/R delay on the second cab block to...

Using Far-Field Cab IR's to fake Mid/Side Recording

I've messed around with a nice trick to get some width on a dry mono track (say lead guitar for example), without making it sound "roomy" and without changing the tone of your main cab (like adding another cab would). What I did is split the signal from the amp block into 2 cabs. The first one...

Is something wrong with my Axe-Fx II or me?

Do you mind posting a new audio clip to show the difference and satisfy my curiosity?

Thank you, that's very useful! Though strangley I couldn't find any mention of the SV Bass in there. Thanks for confirming!
