Charvel Guthrie Govan vs DK-24

Didnt the rasmus line get stopped because it was eating into regular suhr sales? Or is that internet lore? Which is to say, the rasmus are pretty good.

John Suhr has said that the Rasmus line was ended because it took too much time for what it was worth. He said that he was constantly playing whack a mole dealing with QC issues (they were made over seas and then shipped to Suhr for QC and setup). They decided to halt the foreign manufacturing and just make them in house. That's how the modern satin model came into production.

The one I have my eye on has some flavor of Duncans, and looks like a scalloped fretboard. Were those ever stock features, or is this "user modified"? Not that that's necessarily bad, but seems it needs some scrutiny...
Best I can tell and that the seller tells me, it seems the scallop and Duncans are factory.

Not to highjack the thread, but I've never played a scalloped guitar. Anyone care to guess whether I'll like it? Of course you don't know, but let's pretend...

I'll try it if/when I can, but school me: Why should I want a scalloped neck? What do you get in return for it being harder to play in tune?

I've backed away from this. I have limited playing time, I'm not interested in turning it into a technical hurdle just to play in tune.

I want a guitar like that at some point, or even better, the US Charvel, but not this one.

Beeeautiful! Congrats!!

What are you going to do with your DK24 now? This looks like a major upgrade on that.
Well, if nothing else, it was purchased for my Vai Academy 5.0 use initially, so the back has a phenomenal collection of signatures (Vai, Satch, Plini, Andy Timmons, etc :))

But I'm sure I'll still be playing it - it's a great guitar!

That is great! I'm glad you are keeping it, I love my DK24 and might look to get a USA model at some point too!

Did your tuning issues settle down completely once you made all those changes (I recall a thread you posted where you ended up using staggered machine heads and new saddles)? I'm trying not to derail this thread, but am deciding whether I want to spend more money to stabilise my DK24's tuning or maybe put that cash towards a USA model (or similar). I haven't made any of the changes you did yet.

Yeah... It is pretty solid now.

Honestly, I think staggered tuners and getting rid of the string trees was the best move.

Anyone here have both a Charvel Guthrie Govan and Charvel DK-24?

I really, really love the neck on my DK-24 and have been lusting after a GG since I first saw them. Wondering how the necks compare: overall shape, thickness, fret size.

I know the finish seems to be the same and the radius is the same.
I remember seeing one at the King of Prussia mall in PA. Try calling them, maybe you'll get lucky?

Cool thanks, it is cheaper to start off with just that than also replacing the saddles too! I'll try this before explaining to my wife that I need another guitar...!

Very interested to see how you like the neck of the USA when it arrives compared to the DK-24.

For sure... Plus the locking saddles are hard to get ;)

I really hope it feels the same. But if it's better then bonus!

I was thinking about getting the Pink Pro-Mod DK24 HSS 2PT ($1,200 in Thailand) but I've found a second hand USA Select San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT for $1,430, which is still on my budget

What do you think? Is there a huge difference between the USA and the Mex?

Here are the pictures of that USA Select San Dimas. It has one scratch, and the string tree is not original

That USA has hard tail bridge, but I could live with that if the quality was really superior.

Has anyone played both?

I haven't played the USA Select but that seems like a great price.

Don't know if the San Dimas has the same basic neck profile or not... Since it's a 22 fret, it might be different. IMO, the "speed neck" on the DK-24 is the best neck I've ever played.

Just checked Pro Audio Star again, they have both flame and caramelized models "used" and new.
Which is odd, to say the least.
The "used" ones explicitly don't have the manufacturer's warranty, which "open box" typically does.
$2,699.99 vs $3299.99, significant.

You could always try the "November Sales Event" coupon they keep showing me, for another 5% off used and demo, 15% off new.

For some reason, I kinda just don't trust those guys though.
Anyone have personal experience with them?

Done! I've pulled the trigger for the Pink DK-24 HSS. I will receive it in one or two days

I couldn't feel more happy... until I've seen this porn pic, here in Bangkok. These chicks are rare here:
Tom Anderson Drop Top.jpg

I've talked with the seller, and he would trade it for my Schecter Nick Johston USA Custom Shop, plus $1,900. The Tom Anderson is new.

OMG! What can I do now???

If I had seen that before, I would have not ordered the Charvel. I am not a pro player, and I did stop playing with bands a while ago. This is just an old man's whim, and my wife may kill me for that 😅
