Axe-Fx III 16.00 Beta 4 "Cygnus" Firmware - Public Beta

Not open for further replies.
Nothing short of fantastic. The old Fenders are incredible: They were great before, but the 5e3 in particular responds so perfectly to to guitar volume pot manipulation and pick attack: and now with both V knobs on the model: It gives up pretty much everything that amp can do with substantially less crackle and hum. The Tweed Twin, Blackface Deluxe and 59 Bassman seem to have a bit more spring in their step.

Dirty Shirley is as addictive as ever.

I've just started to cosy up with the Tucana and the Dumbles, so if you don't hear from me for a few weeks, that's where I've gone.

I like the firmware, don‘t get me wrong. But my experience was the complete opposite: maybe it‘s because of the amps i play the most, but the JCM 800 and Friedmann HBEs were harder for me to dial in compared to the past.... or maybe I just had a bad-guitar-day.
did you reset the amps?

The best analogy I can think of for this firmware is that it's like taking all your gear to get serviced and running in it's sweet spot. Everything is that little bit easier to play and quicker to dial in. G L O R I O U S

I can already tell that I am going to have to revise my entire amp setup (I use two global amp blocks across all my presets). I am trying alternative amps, and they all just sounds glorious. I was never really able to dial in Atomica High or AC20 to where I wanted them before, but now they just sing.

The original post was just the amp name, but each amp often has more than 1 model in the axefx. Different channel, switch position etc.

For example, cliff gave this only one line:
63 CAMERON CCV 1A (based on Cameron CCV-100)
64 CAMERON CCV 1B
65 CAMERON CCV 2A
66 CAMERON CCV 2B
67 CAMERON CCV 2C
68 CAMERON CCV 2D

Exactly. This actually shows how much work was already done. We got half of all models redone already. I'm wondering what's the approach with "legacy" models like Das Metall or Thordendal.

Imagine having to pull all those amps out of storage and test against an algorithm when most users including myself have never even played many of them in the Axe.
I'd still pay $2500 for the Cygnus 5E3 all over again.
Such an awesome company.
I have a lot of those Fender and Marshall amps in storage. Since the III, the only amps in the room have been a BF Bassman, an almost equally old Marshall 1987, an early model Traynor YBA-1, a 1959 Tweed Deluxe, and a Dumble ODS clone that I built myself. Today is Sunday. All but the Traynor will go into storage, and the only consequence will be more wall and floor space. Hold on, also two of my eight band mates will spit the dummy, having to bring their amp or modeler to rehearsals, lol.

Anyone out there on the fence... get onto this platform/firmware. Holy smokes.
Mr Chase, you weren’t whistling Dixie, when you said you cracked the code.

Now that I played it all day, pretty much everything except 5153100W RED sounds great. This one however sounds looser and muddier than before.(According to my older Presets) Maybe it sounds closer to original thing and I liked the fw15.01 version better.

I'll recheck the model but it should be accurate. If you read reviews of the amp the red channel is polarizing. The blue channel is universally liked, the red channel not so much.

@FractalAudio earlier in the thread I mentioned the red channel as like stuffing a hornet into a jar of honey bees in high gravity.
Essentially it's too condensed in the fizz and loose in the goose, in the model.
I have mine behind me and it's easy to dial in as a second blue channel with more compression. It's very difficult to get it to spit pea soup and curse me like in the Cygnus model.
