FM3 FC-6 carry bag or case options

Here's how both can fit into a Pelican Air 1535 Carry-On. I have other stuff underneath in electronics organizer bags - there's plenty of room for cables and small accessories. Not a cheap solution but for me it means I won't worry if I have to check it as baggage. Or be concerned about breakage when drummers help load my gear. 🤣 IMG_1181.JPGIMG_1182.JPGIMG_1183.JPG

A couple weeks in with the Apache 4800, and while the case is really nice the foam is garbage. It’s already chewed up and ripped from just taking the unit in and out a few times. Need to figure something out here.

It's pretty soft but I wouldn't say squishy. I don't think it's perfect protection, but good enough when I carry my own gear which is almost always.
I'm a big proponent of good, firm, closed-cell foam. Many manufacturers make a big deal about how thick their foam is, but a quarter-inch of closed-cell foam gives you better protection than an inch of open-cell foam.

If you pinch the foam and you can feel your fingers touching each other, that's open-cell foam. There's not much impact protection there.

That’s a shame. I’m sorry to hear that.

That’s what I need: closed cell foam. I wonder how to get that and have it fit the case
Ideally, you'd get a block of foam and cut it to fit. You might be able to get by gluing sheets of foam into the shape you need.

Actually, in your situation, you could get by with medium-density open-cell foam. When the foam is form-fit to your gear, and the case is hard-shell, open-cell foam can do its job properly if it's not too thin and its density isn't too low.

Traditional guitar flight cases are just plywood boxes filled with an enormous piece of medium-density open-cell foam. The guitar floats in a snug hole cut into the middle of the foam.

if you are in need of some foam you might try posting a thread. A lot of guys are getting cases full of foam. I think in my "case", the foam is in 4 layers about 1.5 inches each and I may only need 2 layers. Don't have it yet so can't say for sure whether it's pick n pluck or a sheet. I'd send any extra for the cost of shipping but I doubt anyone would want to pay that from where I am.

I knew I said I wasn't going to do this, but I'm putting my FM3 on a board with an EV-1. I found a nice 12"x18" flat board that will fit perfectly in a Mono Club Accessory 2.0 case. So onto the board and into the Club 2.0 it goes. I haven't once wished for having my FC-6 with the FM3, that only gets used with my III.

I'm not going to fool with closed cell foam. It's ridiculously expensive, like the same price or more than the case I bought. And Mono makes great stuff. Those wishing for a Kontroller bag, I found one in stock here: https://www.gear4music.com/us/en/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Mono-Kontroller-Bag-Black/1FL8

The Moog bag looks like a really good option for me if my Gator 2110 isn't big enough, I don't need a hard shell case at this point. Perfect fit for FM & FC, and it looks like there's room for a pair of Mission pedals. Some open foam is probably fine for my needs, heck even a towel or something would work ;-). I'd also put something between the two pedals so they don't bump and scratch. External compartment for accessories, cables, etc and I'm good to go. The Gator looks like it has less padding than this one and my AX8 has been fine.

Look into EPE foam. 1/2-inch sheets would give you good protection for a decent price. A 2-foot x 4-foot sheet can be had for about US$ 15.

I've got a Mission pedal around here--I'll check the fit.

Here’s where I landed. I bought a 18”x12” flat board and the Mono Club 2.0 bag. I used 3/16” oak ply to make risers (should have used 1/4” under the FM3, but it’s okay) and glued them to the board using Gorilla super glue gel. Industrial strength velcro on that and the units.

Nice work. Did you remove the rubber feet from the EV-1?

FWIW, the Headrush backpack fits an FM3, FC6, two expression pedals, and a bunch of cables. I think I can jam my sheet music binder and iPad in there as well. It wouldn’t stand up to legitimate touring, but should be fine for running around town... hope to find out when we’re done sheltering-in-place!
