Marshall amp question

Hello,

What would be the closest model to a 79’ JMP 2203?

I’ve always loved those amps, and been wanting to recreate one.

Thanks!

How many different bright caps have been used on Marshall Plexi 100's and 1959 SLP's, and which values?

A 2203 is a 100W Plexi. So try the various Plexi 100W models and the 1959SLP models.
The JMP 2204 and 2203 are master volume amps that were precursors to the JCM 800 line. And they’re technically metal panel amps, not plexis.

I thought that last Marshall that was added was that amp. Wasn’t the last Marshall that was added about a year or so ago the model that was right before the 800?

Sorry, I answered this hastily. A 2203 is a 100W Master Volume Marshall. IIRC the Plexi 100W 1970 model is a 2203. And, yes, technically they had metal panels Mr. Pedantic but all of us amp guys still call them Plexis.

The Marshall naming structure has always been odd to me..

1959, 2203, 2204, 2205,2210, 2555, 1987, 2555, 2550, 2100, 2500, 6100....

Yup.
Off the top of my head:
1959: 100W Plexi
1987: 50W Plexi
2203: 100W Master Volume (Both "Plexi" and JCM800)
2204: 50W Master Volume (Both "Plexi" and JCM800)
2550: 50W Silver Jubilee
2555: 100W Silver Jubilee
6100: 30th Anniversary

I blame it almost entirely on Marshall :p

To me, the 2203/2204 JCM 800 was no more different from the 2203/2204 JMP than any value changes the JMPs had amongst itself during the mid-to-late 70s. That’s why I don’t get too hung up on JMP/JCM, I just go by 2203/2204.

And I call any 4-hole NMV Marshall a Plexi. Maybe that’s why people don’t listen to me.

This was an odd choice for my first post here, lol.
