EDIT: Cab Pack released: http://shop.fractalaudio.com/Cab_Pack_20_ML_Brit_4x12_Collection_p/fas-801-0020.htm
This is the secret I've been keeping. I've been working on this Cab Pack for over 6 months at this point and it feels very strange to finally talk about it in public. This Brit Collection is completely based on 4x12 Marshall cabinets. Most of you know the reputation of Cab Pack 8: Brit TV and it's still being used for many awesome things by people I never even dreamed of working with. I will throw Cab Pack 8 in as a bonus for those who don't have it yet.
Originally my plan was to release all these cabinets as separate Cab Packs but since people were asking for bundles I quickly realized that you guys probably want all of these packs so I'd rather jump straight to giving all packs for one price that's a lot lower than my usual rate. Are you ready for literally thousands of IR's?
Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
Before I continue I recommend you read what a pre-Rola is so you'll have a better understanding on what I'm talking about: http://www.bygonetones.com/pre-rola-explained.html
ML Brit PR55 based on a 1969 Pre-Rola Marshall 4x12 cab with T1511 55hz speakers. I call this the Jimi cab. The 55hz-ness adds a lot of low end range so with a Strat it gets me immediately to that Jimi vibe. Obviously many of the records that started rock'n'roll were recorded using this exact cabinet so it has many purposes. Here's what it sounds like:
ML Brit PR75 based on a 1973 Pre-Rola Marshall 4x12 cab with T1221 75hz speakers. Yes another Pre-Rola. This is my #1 cabinet! This is what made people go nuts in those other threads where I couldn't give an answer. I don't think I need words to explain how awesome this is. Take a listen:
ML Brit HW based on a Marshall 1960BHW 4x12 cab with G12H30 speakers. This is the AC/DC cab that they're using these days. Awesome for metal. I would say this is closer to Cab Pack 8 than any of the other cabs in here but it sounds different. It has kind of a middle scoop around 1khz and a very even frequency drop off. Metal guys will like this even more than the TV cab. This is a more modern alternative and is noticeably brighter than the older cabinets just like Cab Pack 8.
ML Brit 80 based on a Marshall 4x12 from the 1980s with G12-80 Classic Lead speakers hence the name "80s". I know it sounds strange but this is the most vintage sounding cabinet of the bunch. It's also the least Marshall sounding as I think the pick attack and warmth is almost Fendery at times. This is what I would use if I was in one of those hip retro bands like Arctic Monkeys or Franz Ferdinand etc. Nothing else quite sounds like this cab.
ML Brit TV based on a Marshall 1960TV cabinet. This is Cab Pack 8. I did these clips with Cab Pack 8 as a reference point for you guys so you can compare what you're getting if you're interested in getting this pack.
So that's it. The secret is out. I hope it goes without saying that this is a must have pack for most people who take their "based on" Marshall tones seriously. This pack should be out this month so stay tuned!
I will post pictures of the actual cabs and speakers and all types of guitar porn as I know we all like that stuff.
Questions are more than welcome!
