A word to the wise concerning the Axe FX USB port!

Looks like this must be what happened to mine. Also in Northern Florida (Jacksonville), might have been the same day...it was mid-September.

Tosin Abasi playing Axe FX for EMGpicksupsTV

Ah, whatever he's playing, he's incredible. The Animals as Leaders album is outstanding....musical, virtuosity, TASTE, with an edge...it's like jazzy-funk prog metal. What a combination.

External 1U Custom IR Speaker Simulator

I had thought about this too...basically just a big "solid state hard drive" to store IRs in, that you could route your AxeFX effects block signal chain through, then out to FRFR speakers. Would be awesome.

    Some new sounds

Sounds great! The rhythm part almost has a "Police" feel to it, and the lead is great, nice and thick...you get a nice Satriani-style legato run going there at about the 1:20 or so mark, too...very nice!

    Incredible player...

Sidivan...yeah, this kid has incredible skills...and he is versatile...the version of Gary Moore's "The Loner" that he did with Dragianni (also a monster player), shows his versatility, and I really think his biggest strength is his musicality...he can really cut loose and hit the "wow" button...
  12. T

    Incredible player...

Yeah, he really makes it look effortless...he's obviously very influenced by Steve Vai (and who on Jemsite isn't?), but he has his own thing going on...sort of the way it is obvious that Steve Vai is very influenced by Jimi Hendrix, but has his own thing (or several of his own things) going on.
  13. T

    Incredible player...

So I have been watching this kid on YouTube since I saw a post of his on jemsite a year or so ago...he is playing through an Ibanez RG450LTD, some pedals, and a Behringer amp...and sounds amazing, with a metric ton of chops. Just like that video of Satriani playing a Rogue Strat through some...

    The Marshall Wall Of Death

Would be hilarious if they fell down during a show...almost like how the "real" Wizard of Oz was behind the curtain, controlling the hologram. Reminds me of the graphics on one of the Guitar Hero games, where there is a huge wall of stacks behind the "band" in the game.

EVH / Zakk Wylde ish tone (youtube)

You were NAILING the pick squeals, too....nice. Surprised you were using passives, since I see a Goldtop Epi LP with EMGs in it, and that's the "traditional" Zakk style.

Uberschall Lead Clip - Dimebag :D

It's a little too "distant" (as if it was "room" mic-ed instead of close miked...could be my speakers, though), the original is a little more "in your face," but TONE wise? I actually prefer your "base tone" to the original on this one.

    Then vs Now

Luckily, the Internet has functionally replaced the radio. It's better for the listener, and for independent artists, who would never have been able to get their music played on the radio, but can find a willing audience on the Internet. Ask bands like Periphery, Animals as Leaders, etc, etc...

I am actually in this EXACT situation myself. I changed the pots in my two EB VP Jrs to linear taper pots to use with my old Triaxis/2:90/G-Major setup, and use them now as expression pedals with the AxeFX. Of course, you can put a volume block right at the end of the signal chain in EVERY...

Wow. Amazing, really! I agree with Dojo, though, it definitely could be improved by having the "signature riff" in the intro. Good stuff, though, and yes, the drumming is incredible, especially considering it's all done MIDI.

What gauge strings do you guys use?

I use "Hybrid"/"Skinny top, Heavy bottom" sets...the high strings from a set of 9s, and the low strings from a set of 10s (.46 gauge for the low E string)...the same type of set Petrucci uses...I like the added tension in the low strings with the ease of playability of the thinner gauge high...

New Haunted Shores Song and New Blog!!

Man, what a bunch of great sounds you have going on this new song...geez. The rhythm tone is punchy, with a nice hard edge on it, but still very "easy on the ears," and the lead-"ish" tone you go into near the last third of the tune is just beautiful. Great stuff, guys, I could really hear...

One expression pedal controlling multiple effects

Muris has it nailed. That's exactly what you have to do. One hit of the switch makes "Gain 1" from the Mixer go from 0 to 100 and "Gain 2" from the Mixer go from 100 to 0, and vice versa. Mixer blocks are WAY more helpful than I would have ever imagined...I hadn't ever even thought of them...
  40. T

One expression pedal controlling multiple effects

You can do this by using a mixer block before your two effects (in this case, Whammy and Wah), then assigning one of the switches on your MIDI pedal board to switch between the two. Basically, you set up a mixer block to control how much signal is going in to the two different effects...0 to...

    A question about turning on/off effects w/ a GCP

Yes, if you assign, for example, Switch 1 (the upper left hand corner switch) to "CC 1" in the Ground Control Pro setup, and then assign "CC 1" to "Delay 1 Bypass" in the AxeFX Controls screen, it will be "universal/global" on the GCP and turn on/off Delay 1 in any preset that contains a Delay 1...

    FBT Verve 8ma vs. 12ma

Okay...about to take the plunge. I am really leaning toward the 8mas for the price, but what am I really going to be missing if I get them instead of the 12mas? I understand I will miss out on a little bit of low-end, but will that really matter, unless I am drop-tuning or really chugging away...

need help setting up virtual pedal board

It will. Once you set up your patch the way you want it on the Axe and GC Pro, just go to "Edit," and then save to that same preset on the GC Pro. Now, when you switch back to that preset on the GC Pro, it will have the same IA/CC switches on/off that you were on/off when you saved.

Can this be done with CC messages? (Wah/Whammy)

This worked *PERFECTLY*. Set it up with the wah and whammy in parallel, right at the front of the chain, with the mixer after the two. Set Gain 1 to External 4, normal slope, and set Gain 2 to External 4, inverted slope. Now, whenever I push the CC button my GC Pro, it switches between the...

JBL JRK 112 vs. FBT Verve 12m or 8m

Although I know I will get the *very expected* (and likely very accurate) responses concerning "getting what you pay for," I have to ask the question... I am looking at breaking in to FRFR (or as close to it as possible), and I am looking at a couple of different options. Option 1 is the FBT...

Can this be done with CC messages? (Wah/Whammy)

So this is what I am trying to figure out: In front of all my signal chains for all my patches, I would like to have a whammy effect and a wah set up to the same external controller, assigned to an expression pedal. I would like to set it up so that a CC message (one of the IA buttons on my...

    Carvin TS100 users unite !

Ah...another has joined the darkside, I saw from your blog. Just like a lot of other guys around here, I am going to recommend a *gasp* solid state amp. I just got a Carvin DCM1540L and love it. Light, and sounds great. And flat, which is important here.
  62. T

    Carvin DCM1540L or QSC GX5

I can't speak for the difference it might/would make through a FRFR setup, I can only comment on the difference it made through a stock guitar cab setup. I am running into two Avatar 1x12s loaded with Vintage 30s, and the sound was definitely better, to my ears at least, with the Carvin.
  63. T

    Carvin DCM1540L or QSC GX5

I had a GX5, and the AxeFX sounded great through it. Then I got a Carvin DCM600, and it sounded INCREDIBLE through it. Not nearly as good as I imagine it would through a FRFR setup, but better than any tone I ever got through a "real amp" setup (including the vaunted Mesa Boogie Triaxis/2:90...
