    Your current fav Marshallesque amps?

The Plexi is a misunderstand beast. When I first began to play guitar in the 80's, I taught the plexi tone was that hair metal tone. In fact, it was the modded plexi tone every guitar hero of that era would pay their amp guru to get. A raw plexi don't have that much gain, think Angus Young or...

    Your current fav Marshallesque amps?

The more the master volume is set high, the less bass you should add, especially on the Plexi models, and the drive should be minimal as well as you get your gain from the power amp or otherwise it can get flubby

    Your current fav Marshallesque amps?

The Splawn Quickrod model has a great Marshall hotrod tone, really tight. The Revv purple 1 with the gain around 4 has a great Marshall tone as well. The JVM orange OD-1 is another great Marshall, but it has an insane amount of gain, it will sound over compress unless you set the gain around...

What a journey! ( FM3 VS Kemper content)

This is the cab IR only, it's not a preset. Enjoy!
  5. dupere11497

I am sitting on the fence with my review. AX8 to FM3 (EDIT, I have climbed down from the fence now..)

My advice would be to never judge a unit by it’s presets. The easiest way in your situation would be to choose the same amp and cab IR you have on your best AX8 patch to compare with the FM3. I had the AX8 and it’s not that far behind the FM3 in terms of tone. But The feel is way better with the...

Sure did! While good tone is still subjective, these good comments helps to validate my decision.

What a journey! ( FM3 VS Kemper content)

From Friedman website: Dave Friedman’s favorite 4×12 cab in bare wood. This is Dave’s primary workshop cab and has been used to voice his amplifiers since the very beginning. It’s fitted with four 6402 Greenback speakers and was captured with an SM57 and R-121 for a nice balance of cut and body

What a journey! ( FM3 VS Kemper content)

I've been a long time Fractal user, from the Axe Fx Ultra, II, AX8, Axe Fx III and FM3. For the last few years, I've been going on and off between the Kemper and FM3. I'm not playing live anymore, I'm only playing in my home studio through headphones or studio monitors. The Kemper is a great...

Does anyone use there fm3 with a amp?

You want to plug the FM3 into the effet loop return of your amp (power amp in) in order to bypass the preamp section of your amp. Otherwise, even with preamp gain at zero, the preamp section is active. Also, make sure you bypass the power amp modeling and cab simulation of the FM3 with this...

  15. dupere11497

Does anyone land on a single IR or IR blend for live use?

It would be a sound man nightmare to use different IR, especially during a song. Changing IR means a significant change in EQ so you could easily get lost in the mix while going from a clean to a dirty patch using a different IR. 99% of all my patches use the Leon Todd TV Mix 2 IR, for clean...

Kemper user here who just got an FM3 - blown away

True! I had packs form both Mbritt and Top Jimi and I agree their profiles sound nothing like their demos. With the FM3, I download some Leon Todd presets and they sound glorious just like him!! Well, I'm not that glorious sounding myself but it's good enough to put a smile in my face as well!! :)
  18. dupere11497

Forgot How Loud Tube Amps Are

Tube amps were not design to be played in a bedroom in the first place. Sure you can use a load box but it's not the same. It's been more than 25 years since I last played a gig. I play in my bedroom home studio exclusively through high end studio monitors. Unlike most guitar player, I hate...

Long time Kemper user here and Fractal stuff as well. I just bought a FM3 and my reaction is like yours: I'm blown away!! I finally got my mids back!!! Whatever profiles I would use, there was always this low mids congestion or weird compression going on, a kind of signature sound. You don't get...

    Bryan Adams Tone FW Q10.01

Sounds very very close! I must have listen to this record a thousand time so I’m pretty familiar with the guitar tone. It’s damn good I must say! The original is maybe a bit more wet, Mutt Lang 80’s production signature secret sauce, but it’s a convincing job! Well done!

Axe-Fx III users: still use outboard effects?

    New amps and effects?

At this point, any new amp of effect model is just gravy! You can emulate and cover just about any guitar sound in the universe and beyond! The AX3 is already the ultimate tone machine as it is! But I’m curious to see what Cliff will do with all that spare memory and power left. Never...

    My honest review

So my new Axe fx III arrived this afternoon. For the record, I'm quite familiar with almost all Fractal's product. I had a Standard, an Ultra, then the II when it came out, the XL and the AX8. So, I have good references to compare this big guy with. Have I've been a loyal Fractal's customer over...

Axe-Fx III Recto Models Tips & Tricks

George’s tone is huge on that album! A lot of oberdubs obviously, but the result is massive! Including his clean tone with that bell like huge chorus with tones of lush reverb! He was still playing heavily modded Marshalls at this point. I think the Soldano era began with Wicked Sensation!

Axe-Fx III Recto Models Tips & Tricks

Sounds awesome! Now it would be great if you would do a video about a George Lynch early era guitar tone. You know, that Super Plexi juicy tone with chewy mids. Mark Day has tones of great Lynchesque Patches, but I would like to ear your take on that type of sound. Keep them coming and thanks...

Bye bye Kemper, hello Axe fx III

I was a long time Axe fx ultra, II and AX8 user. I tried the Kemper out of curiosity and quite liked it so I bought one and sold my AX8. The honeymoon lasted for 6 months. I mean don't get me wrong, the Kemper is a very good product. But there's a kind of signature tone you can hear and feel...

UPDATED: Under-rated amp models - High and Low Gain

There's never enough 80's hotrodded models! We need more!!! It's interesting how you set up the Tucana! The default value sets the drive parameter at 5 and the overdrive at 10. I thought it sounded kind of flubby! I see you do the opposite by setting the overdrive at 5 and the drive at 10 and it...

    Playthrough featuring Brit #34

I just can't get enough of those 80's hotrod tones! I began to play guitar in 1988 because of Vito Bratta, Van Halen and Steve Vai! I'm still stuck in this era 30 years later and it's a lot of fun!!!! Great tone and playing!!!
  38. dupere11497

    Regarding IR choice

The difference in tone is less obvious in the mix context! This is the reason why I now choose a specific IR with a backing track playing so it gives me a pretty good idea of the overall tone I'm getting! It took me a while to realise that! A good tone by itself usually get lost in a mix. Also...

Into the fire by Dokken /George Lynch w/preset

Cliff, do you sometimes still use the Ultra?

I still have my beloved Axe fx Ultra and still use it from time to time and it still kick some serious ass IMHO!! It has a kind of polished tone VS the raw tone of the XL. The later excel at clean and breakup tone but I like the Ultra's Hi gain tone! I wonder if Cliff still use it from time to...

    About the FAS models

How to achieve this tone of Frank Gambale?

There's an obvious flanger effect thickening his tone on that clip! You get that same effect on Kirk Hammet intro solo for Fade to black where he also use a flanger after the amp. Yup, flanger is the key ingredient for that tone!

CAE 3+ and JMP-1 model question

Well you can change the poweramp tubes so it dosen't really matters which poweramp is model! JMP-1 comes with an EL34 poweramp so swap those for 6L6 if you want a tone close to what a VHT PA would give you and so on with all the other tubes options!

    AX8 vs Atomic Amplifire

I had them all, Kemper, Amplifire, Helix and all Fractals from Standard, Ultra, XL and now AX8. The Axe fx swallow them all! Best amp modeling and effects period! Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

    Yup! Sooooooo true!!!!!
  65. dupere11497

Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

True! And using less gain help reveals your picking dynamics! With too much gain, picking hard of soft won't be different on your tone while while it will have a drastic change with lower gain settings!
  66. dupere11497

Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

I don't know really, I haven't spend much time with Q5 before upgrading to Q6.
  67. dupere11497

Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

My guess is it's pretty accurate. The relative behavior of the knobs to the actual amp model was introduce with MIMIC some Firmware ago. I don't think there was improvement on this from Q5 to Q6.
  68. dupere11497

Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

Well, I would say it really dosen't matter anymore to me. I use and trust my ears. I don't own any of the amps the Axe fx replicate so I don't really care if the drive knob or any other parameter behave exactly like the real thing. As long as it sounds good, I'm happy!
  69. dupere11497

Do yourself a big favor, keep the drive LOW!!!!

Q6.0 is awesome! Dynamics are spectacular. On past firmware, I would set the drive too high on my Higain patches thus I was struggling to get rid of the mudd on my tone. Now, depending on the amp model, I usually set the drive nomore than around 3-4. What a difference does it makes!! You...

Having a hard time with high gain...

Keep your Master volume low for that high gain tone, around 3. And just like a real tube amp, keep the drive low!!! Too much gain is not gonna give you sustain but mudd!
