Let's show some love! What is the thing about the Axe3 that made you grin recently?

for me.... after using a Fractal since my original standard back in 2007, this year I have been firmly getting into synths... and my AFX as a dedicated FX processor for my analogue synths has had me grinning from ear to ear.

Help with Adam A7X studio monitors for AxeFx III

Some of this is in descriptions.... one persons "boomy" is another's "lovely low end"... One persons "harsh" is another's "cuts nicely". Direct sounds are most often down to the cab blocks - heck I still prefer no cab block and into my real cab lol - but Im working on direct for a change...

How do we know the amp models are very accurate?

Im in the "I dont care" or "does it matter" camp.... I actually moved to the AFX (back in the standard days of 2008) because I couldnt find a real amp that sounded how I wanted it to - there was always something that niggled. a little too harsh, an odd midrange freq I couldn't dial out, or...

from Friedman BE100 Deluxe to Axe FX III?

maybe, but you have to add a controller, and speaker, and amp is its a passive speaker of some sort.... It doesnt negate the volume issue - nor is an AFX cab do the Friedman sound - but budget wise there wont be much in it once you have all the bits you need for an AFX rig, not just the AFX itself.

    2 Axe III's via MIDI

there is another possible issue. I work for a manufacturer of industrial Coding machines. Barcodes, FRID etc. with some products its seem that PCs (and macs) wont differentiate between 2 units that are the same make and model over USB. We often have to resort to one via USs with a...

Monitors vs FRFR for bedroom player?

Just a point - studio monitors ARE FRFR.......more so than FRFR stage cabinets are (generally). What your debating is a stereo pair of STUDIO FRFR monitors - or a stage volume FRFR cabinet. Studio monitors are more accurate, and built for the room environment. FRFR cab is built for the extra...

    Seymour Duncan PowerStage power amps?

I use the PS 170. Its velcoro'd into the back of my rack. FWIW, it replaced a Fryette Power station, and before that a Matrix GT800, and before that a VHTY 2:50:2. Its just as good as any of those IMO. its LOUD.....

Adam A5X vs A7X. Is bigger better?

decent for their cost - not a patch on the Adams though (nor Focals, or Neumann's, or any of the better manufacturers).
  10. P

Adam A5X vs A7X. Is bigger better?

not for just guitar no - no benefit. As I say, I use one because I play keys/synths as well - and they DO need the low freq coverage. Just for guitars, you wont be using it. If you find you using them for "playback" at some point - then you can just add a sub then. if you do _ I chose...

    Speaker Output Mode

Its not weird at all. cliff is a perfectionist... he often implements things that make TINY differences, that in a real world situation you really couldn't, tell BUT if you critically listen/feel you can discern those small differences - and of course small differences do add up. Its why...
  12. P

    Speaker Output Mode

They are practically the same. There are some VERY subtle differences. In a studio, you wouldnt need the amp feed so would set it to FRFR. if your just using a power amp you set it to power amp. if you using BOITH, ie onstage to an amp/cab and then to a desk - just set it to FRFR and leave...

Adam A5X vs A7X. Is bigger better?

Mine 2x4m so 8 square. 5".is fine in that size. Your not going to use the few hz lower frq then, or need the bigger volume. Smaller speakers tend to have a flatter response (the neuman 4s are flatter than the 5s for instance). The smaller cones are easier to control. I use a sun for...

Yeh - ive known Sukh personally for many years, since the first UK Axe-Fest back in .... Oh i cant remember. 2011 or something.
  15. P

Adam A5X vs A7X. Is bigger better?

depends on room size, volume needs or if you add a sub... FWIW I used the 5 over the 7 for about 6 years before changing to Neumann KH120s. and the KH750 sub.

    Power Amp recommendation please

yeh - was involved in the original GT800fx evolution, actually had the 2nd ever XT800 (which was the power amp that the GT800fx is derived from) and provided a lot of feedback to matrix to develop the GT. if I had a 1U rack space, or needed stereo I would still have gone that route, but my 4U...

    Power Amp recommendation please

Oh it does, and that's how i used it through necessity... but its better with pa modelling off. It's not the freq neutrality, the fryette is flat enough for that, its the dynamic interaction between ps and speaker. That's not part of the cab block unfortunately its in the amp block...

Does anyone think the rotary should be in the cab block? Are there any rotary cab IR’s or IR’s that come close?

well, the blocks tend to model pedals where possible (or rack effects). And given the difficulties of modelling a true cab (as discussed) its not likely. I mean, cant be 100% unless cliff chimes in, but taking everything into consideration....
  21. P

    Power Amp recommendation please

I sold the fryette. There not much in it - the Fryette is perhaps a little more lively, a little more dynamic BUT you need to have PA sims off. The Power Stage is very close, and you can leave the PA modelling on. If you send a feed to desk and want an amp/cab backline, then the Power Stage...

Does anyone think the rotary should be in the cab block? Are there any rotary cab IR’s or IR’s that come close?

for the OP - in answer to the question - absolutely not. Plenty oy "rotary" pedals out there (which is what the block emulate rather than a true speaker cab) - and how about those of us that dont use cab blocks but still need the effect?

Change two blocks at once without scene?

Im considering the same - ie using 1 IR. I tend to use 3 at present. 1x12 for cleans sounds, 2x12 for crunchy and 4x12 for all the rest - however I do really like the 2x12 mix Im using which is very similar to my real cab. No surprise actually as my cab is a zilla loaded with one V30 and...

What am I doing wrong? AFX3 sounds awful when played loud

Been there. in the early days I just hired a rehersal space myself for a day and did all my sounds at gig level. I had some of the bands tracks as well so I could here it in our mix once Id got them close - and further tuned them. I generally only use 2 or 3 amps into 1 or 2 cabs live...

some may beg to differ, but I think its about 85% the cab..... I remember a few years back a vid showing about 20- amps through one cab, then one amp through about 6 cabs. While there were subtle differences between the amps into a single cab - there were by and large very similar. the 1...

What am I doing wrong? AFX3 sounds awful when played loud

yeh - ive recorded into a daw, and they do sit perfectly. Im used to that - I run our bands (both of them) mix pre show, and I re-mix all out "from the desk" live takes. Ive probably done more mixing (live predominantly but studio as well) that I have actually played over the last 40+ years.

Its difficult to jump in with suggestions - when cliff already has lol... BUT: 1. Im the same as others - I dont generally find factory - or 3rd party - presets work for me. All the ones I use Ive built myself. This has always been the case since my first standard in 2007. 2. backline/amp...

Fryette 2/50/2 vs Fryette Power Station

The difference your hearing is because the power sections are designed to be different things. The mc is a standard amp power section (I don't mean it's not special, just it does a typical job). It saturates, compresses, adds to the while. The point if the ps is it DOESNT do any of that. Its...

No o cant lol - because I cant bypass 2 instances of the same FX block with a single switch...without using control switches and I already use 5 of those and I have 8 FX blocks between amp and cab. I did think of that. I have no problem duplicating the patch - one with FRFR for recording and...

My zilla 2x12 is ported. You get a tighter sound with sealed designs v a looser feel with ported (similar to open v close). Closed is a little more compressed sounding as theres no free air movement. Difference between bass ported and open back is less. A little more low end eith ports. My...

Living on one preset - is it wrong?

This is a distinct difference between an original artist and a gigging covers musician though. If you write and record your own stuff either solo or in a band - you use your sound. It may well only be 1 or 2 sounds (with FX) across a whole career. If your covering others compositions though...

Living on one preset - is it wrong?

That very much depends on how, where and with who you play I guess. I pay keys as well - in 2 bands - and I do just that. One pre-set per song, that has all the sounds and splits I need. I think its more "needed" as a keys player because a sting, pad, lead, piano, organ etc are totally...

Ill also add - Im really back to using the vol and tone controls on the guitar.....something I rarely did on the 2 and never on the standard (used presents to change things like gain and tone). Output 3 level

ok - Got an Emal from SD. the Power Stage requires a -10db input. a +4 may clip the pre-amp. so - from OP1/2 thats easy BUT Im using OP3. Im doing this because OP2 doesnt have a jack output, and OP1 is where the "with cab block" feed is going (mainly because all the factory pre-sets use...

    Output 3 level

It is a tad strange and Im trying to wrap my head around the new toy... If I change the OP level the meters also...

    Output 3 level

That doesnt answer the question.... Is it -10dbu, 4dbu or some other level (signal level?). I did look at that - and it SEEMS to indicate just use OP3 of the AFX with no boost - as that OP is designed for unity gain which is what you get plugging a guitar straight in? would that be fait to...

SPDIF Recording Problem with AxeFX3 and Scarlett 18i20

potentially nothing other than headphone out 1 (which is what I suspect). Without being able to real time play - or have a 2 way video chat its difficult to pin the problem down. If the DAW is pointing to the SPDIF HARDWARE INPUT for its feed - then the DAW shouldnt record. but is that how...

PS in that case - Fryette Power Station. Cab resonance in the amp block - high and low needs to be at 0 for valve amps (any sort) as their output transformers naturally give that. Now - Im NOT sure if switching OP mode from FRFR to amp cab does this or not - because is your have a SS amp and...

SPDIF Recording Problem with AxeFX3 and Scarlett 18i20

your sending the backing track to the AFX over USB is my first gues- which is routing out of the AFX outputs. Dont send the backing track to the AFX - no need. My second guess (if your not doing that) is the feed your sending your DAW is the main outs and you havent muted Software (DAW)...

Fryette 2/50/2 vs Fryette Power Station

As I say - depends how much your attenuating. Its the output level of the VHT that matters. If its too quiet you loose something - but then you'd loose something with an attenuator as well. Its the speaker drive/compression that makes it thin out not the power amp running with a weaker signal.

    Bypass block on channel change?

What I meant by that is you can change that preference in a preset. So - in preset 1, the drive and delay are both included in scene changes - opting in. Change scene - and the states of both reflect that programmed in teh scene. However, in Preset 2 - I want to opt out for the delay. So the...

    Bypass block on channel change?

Let me just clarify - I find scenes too restrictive. Its everything changes or nothing changes - kind of. With AFFX2/MFX I could do any switching I wanted from the MFC - Being a true Midi controller. There were also only 2 channel - x/y. So in this case, I used presents as amp changers (if...

    Bypass block on channel change?

Not sure how that would work. So - currently I use 4 CSs to change channels. I have my amp, cab, drive and filter blocks all switching with one CS. I also use the remaining 2 CSs - one to change global output volumes on multiple output blocks, and the final one toggles the drive and filter...
  66. P

    Bypass block on channel change?

Cant use them. All my blocks with the EXCEPTION of this need to keep the same state they are in at switch. Scenes doesnt do that. I appreciate the concept - but scenes ALWAYS gets pointed to as an answer - but in reality, for how I use things, there no use as they stand.

    Seperate headphone and monitor volume

You do have multiple inputs over usb - assuming its usb your using to get audio from PC to AFX. of those inputs 1&2 hard route to OP 1, inputs 3&4 goes to out 2. maybe the easiest way is to change which channel is feeding the AFX on the PC end.
