I suspect if gigging is the qualifier for buying guitars (or any other gear), a lot of companies would go out of business.

What are you listening to right now?

I used to get a kick out of watching these sisters play covers on YouTube. They are still very young but they’ve evolved a lot and are becoming one of my favorite new bands. I’m really looking forward to seeing them live. It looks like they have some great energy! Their two latest albums are on...

    Show your Taylor

You’re going to get a wide variety of answers for this. It really depends on what you’re looking for and whether you use a pick or fingers. Also, if you are looking for a Martin sound, you aren’t going to find it in a Taylor. That said, the 814CE Builders Edition is the model that fit me best...

    Show your Taylor

My T5Z is slightly neck heavy. It’s not noticeable at all with a suede strap but with a nylon strap the headstock will drift down. I often play my guitar without a strap and don’t notice the neck dive as it’s very minor.

    Let’s see your les pauls

I have an R8 now. The only similarities that it has with an Axcess are that they are both Les Pauls in name and share the same silhouette. Other than that, you couldn’t have two more different guitars. Neck carves are different, headstock angle, bridges, humbuckers, electronics, weight...

    Let’s see your les pauls

When I was asking about mine, the store manager took me into his office and said, “what do I have to do to get rid of this guitar?” He offered me a great price and said that it was a guitar built for a different era. I remember that I loved the way it sounds and felt. The Floyd had a little...

    “Wasted Years” Acoustic cover

I'm really glad others are enjoying this too! There's a bunch of acoustic reinterpretations of old songs I love that have given me a new appreciation for them. Mostly because I can hear the words clearly but also because it's easier to enjoy some of the basic melodies without all the other...

FM3 FM3 for ALL guitars on "yacht grunge" album

    “Wasted Years” Acoustic cover

Most of the recordings that I’ve heard could be made from just about any of the Fractal models offered today. Taylor T5Z Pro (New Version) Grape Vine

I’m still getting used to the knob layout as I’ve hit the volume knob accidentally a few times. This guitar has a lot more volume acoustically than I expected. It’s wonderful! Considering how easy it is to play, I bet that 12-string is a joy to play compared to other 12s.
  66. A

Taylor T5Z Pro (New Version) Grape Vine

This thing is fun! It’s 5 lbs, 10 oz, so it’s really easy on my back. I didn’t buy this thinking that it’s going to sound like my full-size acoustics so my expectations weren’t very high but it sounds fantastic through my Fishman amp. Even though it’s strung with 11’s, it’s very easy to play...

    "My Effin' Life" book

Now that I have the context, that totally makes sense. My first exposure to Rush is Moving Pictures. And I loved everything that they recorded prior to that album. I totally get where you’re coming from. Yes Drama is actually my favorite Yes album (sacrilege, I know). As I started with MP, I...

    "My Effin' Life" book

It’s always interesting to see what people hold as their favorite era of Rush. I absolutely love Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves and assumed most people did as well. "My Effin' Life" book

I don’t have Audible so that’s out. I was interested in the Kindle version because I’m trying to eliminate clutter. 😁 His Big Book of Bass should have been a hardcover purchase as I think it’s a perfect coffee table book. Thanks for the recommendations! I guess I’ll buy it.

    "My Effin' Life" book

    What’s your Main Gee-tar!!! And why….

Trying to figure out which is my main guitar short-circuited my brain. I have at least six contenders for the top spot and can’t pick less than six. My goal for a while is to try to trim down to one or two of my favorites but I’m failing miserably at that.

    NGD - Taylor Acoustic!

If the guitar plays and sounds well, I wouldn’t worry about the sides either. I went through a bunch of Taylors before figuring out which model works best for me. NGD - Taylor 814 CE Builder’s Edition

Thanks! I’m really enjoying the simplicity of just picking it up and instantly having a smile on my face. It sounds so sweet and plays so easily. My wife seems to enjoy hearing me play it too. That’s an extra bonus.
  93. A

    NGD - Taylor 814 CE Builder’s Edition

Once you pass a certain price threshold, I think you’ve got to go a little extra to get exactly what you want. Otherwise it’s always going to bug you. Sweetwater will work with you on the price. 😎
  94. A

    NGD - Taylor 814 CE Builder’s Edition

When I strum this guitar, it sounds like it has more strings than it does. I think it’s because of how balanced the strings are to each other. I’ve owned 300, 400, and 500 series Taylors and loved them all.
  95. A

    NGD - Taylor 814 CE Builder’s Edition

That’s where mine is from. I wanted to compare the 814CE to its 12th fret equivalent. If Sweetwater was within driving distance, that would be very dangerous. 😁 Good luck in your search!

List of things to check on a new guitar to make sure it's not a dud or needs repair?

Based on the duds that I’ve bought in the past, I always look for dead spots. For some reason, on electric guitars, I usually find them on the G string anywhere from the 12-14th frets. With acoustic guitars, I usually find them around the 8-9th fret of the A string. Bass guitars, around the 7th...

NGD I guess you could say I have a type

I wish I could say that I have a particular “type” but it seems that my “type’ is six strings. 😁 Beautiful guitar, congrats! I had this guitar except it was black and had a Kahler bridge. Had it come with a Floyd I would probably have kept it around.
