Subwoofers should not sit on a shelf. They need floor and wall coupling to really be effective as that is where they are designed to be placed. If you need more boom, stick it in a corner.

Best poweramp for Axe III (Goal: LOUDDDDD)

There are "elite guitar players" that still lug around tube amps or use Helix or NDSP stuff too. An appeal to authority like that doesn't mean a product is good or economically smart for you. As far as the Fryette and Matrix stuff, I compared it to Crown. I found the Crown more uncolored. If...

The more IRs are used, the more realistic the amp/cab in the room sound is

Truly, the only way simulate amp in the room is to multi mic the amp in the room in a multi channel matrix, then play it back in a totally dead room with bunch of speakers reproducing the multichannel array. It's simply not practical.
  16. dr bonkers

The more IRs are used, the more realistic the amp/cab in the room sound is

Organic is one of those descriptors that are meaningless when applied to audio, like state of the art. Do you mean farts, sloshing diarrhea, or bird calls? All of those things are organic sounds. Reproducing metal strings vibrating near a metal pickup and making a moving magnetic coil piston a...

The more IRs are used, the more realistic the amp/cab in the room sound is

Multi mic panned within a stereo field is where it's at as far as I am concerned if you have one guitar featured in a mix. The dimensionality is really cool.
  18. dr bonkers

The more IRs are used, the more realistic the amp/cab in the room sound is

@TheRedDevil your poll does not account for single or stereo IR files that are a mix down of multiple mic impulses. If you have a single good mix down file, sometimes that's all you need to fit into a mix.

    My Hermansson Rectifier Preset

    My Hermansson Rectifier Preset

That's almost a 50/50 mix of amp and a live untreated room in those videos. You also can't see the size of the room in videos. Also you are getting the acoustic sound of him hitting the strings from the phone mic. To me it sounds like a medium size room that is very reflective. I would try...

I find the Plexi models all quite dark. Explanation inside. Any help?

Think of it not as user error but as philosophical rigidity that is causing you issues. The QC is a different model. Your real amp has different component tolerances and in some cases different circuits than the Fractal models. Using the same IR and expecting it to work is like expecting the...

Creating sound in the studio or on stage? Is it different?

To me, it really depends upon if the drums are going to sound the same live and in the studio, as well as the bass and keys. If everyone has the same sounds with same eq, then the mix should relatively be the same so if your sounds work for one setting, they should work in the other setting...

Question about the Cab Block/Cabinets (probably dumb)

It's more like four 1x12 cabs with really tight tolerances on the speakers. With a 4x12, you get the bleed of the other 3 speakers in the mic on each speaker. Also, usually the speakers have more drift in their tolerances. That's why you hear people talk about the "good speaker" when they talk...

EQ curve preset that mimics regular guitar cabs for FRFR users?

@henryrobinett Perhaps rather than high passing an IR, using an IR with less bass response or proximity effect may be your solution. Using an IR of an 8 or 10 inch speaker may open up frequencies for the bass. The last thing that I would suggest is high pass of an IR with a separate EQ block...
