Axe bogging down my computer and freezing

Time for a new PC methinks. Can you look in task manager to see what's using all your CPU/memory? What are the specs of this PC? It could be many things causing it, slow hard drive, not enough memory, old CPU, malware. We have no way of knowing. Might just be a case of 2011 hardware not...

Question about Vox style amps and IRs

If there's one thing about the Class A 30W TB model in the axe, it's not dark, it has an aggressively icepicky top end. There's some honky/boxiness in the lower mids, but I tend to just EQ them out, they must be a quirk of the HW Head model Cliff has. I find lowering the cab resonance can help...

Axe-Fx III Firmware 25.00 Public Beta (Cygnus X-3)

Just been playing through it for a couple of hours, sounds amazing, I think it sounds more authentic and natural for lack of better terms. Edge of breakup amps sound stellar. Not noticed any issues so far. Very happy.

This is true if you add stereo fullres room IRs. ;)

Noticeable benefits of going FRFR cab over guitar cab/power amp.

I mean with FRFR you get all the benefits of cab modelling instead of being stuck with one. For home playing it's a no brainer. Live I can see the argument for a real guitar cab.

Axe FX III EMI issues? Thinking about upgrading from the II.

The Axe itself seems to be pretty immune from EMI, I have my laptop literally on the axe fx and with humbuckers there's no noise or none that gets past the default noise gate settings. Obviously with single coils you get EMI but that has nothing to do with the axe fx. Also if you run a silly...

Anyone compare that new 2290 pedal to our 2290 delay?

I had a rack TC2290 and toured with it, it's not as great as you think it is, it was noticeably un-transparent compared to a true bypass signal and not in a good way, the delays in the Axe are superior. It was the best in 1988 possibly, but times have moved on.

It's not just harmonics, look again. It's used on the entire outro. Of course it's not used on all songs, like none of his pedals are used on all songs, but it is used, which is what the question was I was answering. Given that sound (Comp+FA-1) of the outro is basically the New Years Day...

    The Edge/U2 and UAFX pedals

Yeah i know, we can replicate the +4dB boost easily, the SDD drive model audiably distorts when the drive value increases though, I'm asking what drive value matches the SDD preamp. I don't think I've ever seen it documented, I've always assumed it's a value of 1.

    The Edge/U2 and UAFX pedals

Speaking of the SDD3000 drive model, does anyone know what drive value matches the SDD unit? Is it 0? 1? The SDD unit itself doesn't have a "drive" knob. Dallas mentioned Edge has to use capacitors into his wireless packs to mimic long cable runs, I've found changing the input impedance and...

I’m never using a 3rd party IR ever again. Ever. For anything.

Dynacabs is awesome, precisely because it does away with the madness of cycling through hundreds of cab/mic/placement variations, but doesn't have all the cabs that I need. E.g. JC120. I'm sure over time when more are available I'll ditch the legacy IR option completely.

Gapless Switching: Who ditched Scenes for Presets?

Generally I use 1 preset per song, with up to 5 scenes within a song, and have dealt with any channel switching delay before, which wasn't really that bad in all honesty, so my workflow hasn't really changed, it's just better now. Scenes within a preset are an extremely convenient way of...

Blend two Fractal units for optimal sound

Cool, now you just need to upgrade the 2 to a 3 and it will sound even better! I'm assuming you have more than 1 amp in these presets, otherwise you could just do it all on the 3.
  39. A

    The Edge/U2 and UAFX pedals

Edge has Axe FX 2s, so I wonder if it's just a case of the models on those old units just not being right for him. Or it could just be the HW head that's modelled in the Axe isn't right for him. I know I've struggled with it.

    The Edge/U2 and UAFX pedals

They've done a great job, I've listened to a lot of the Sphere shows and would never have guessed it was all emulation.

    The Edge/U2 and UAFX pedals

We don't know what he's using these for or if they replace his amps, but you never know. You'd have to watch his pedalboard during the show to see if the loop lights up. Or Dallas could spill the beans. Until we have more information we can't confirm how they are used. As far as I can tell...

    How to get chg-chg-chg sound?

To me this sounds like pick technique rather than amp settings (other than a LOT of gain), sounds like when the pick annoyingly twists around when I'm chugging too hard and I start hitting it with the edge rather than the flat tip on the pick. You could probably boost some upper mids to make it...

What doesn't the Axe Fx do effect wise

I think the effects are mostly covered, maybe not 100% but close enough with enough tweaking. Distortion/OD/fuzz pedals there are obviously 1000s in the real world and the Axe has a limiited selection. But you can tweak them more than a standard drive pedal so you're likely to get reasonably...

Big dummy when it comes to IR's looking for info

It's simply because of the several iterations of cab modelling and IRs since the AXE FX 1 days. The latest and greatest is Dyna-Cab, which is what I use almost exclusively now unless I can't get the right cab (e,g, JC-120). The UI makes it so much easier to get the right sound, I never like...

I was at that gig! Firmware was released like 10 days ago and they're in the middle of a world tour so no way they're doing that. As M@ said, they use custom IRs anyway. As for "it's not the album tones" well obviously not, the albums have multi layers, eq and all sorts going on. Plus each...

Why do you use FRFR with your Axe-Fx?

  92. A

Axe-Fx III Firmware 22.00 Public Beta (Beta 6)

I think it's a bit bold to say something's wrong and nothing in that thread indicates there is. It could just be people who thought they were tickling the red were using up the 6dB of headroom on hard transients. In fact I'd be willing to bet on it. "Tickling" is open to interpretation.
  93. A

    Input Clipping Thread

I suspect a lot of people were more than "tickling" the red thinking moar input is moar tonez and without a fine grained input meter/peak hold indicator on the front panel it was an easy mistake to make.. Slamming the input of something is almost hardwired into a lot of guitarists.
