Steve Vai’s Jose Modded Marshall Super Lead

Interesting but not surprising that most people ignore the important part. Dave says that Jose added an extra gain stage (a tube, using one half of it) in front of the circuit. He also mentions that the coupling cap was .022. "Most of the Jose's did not even have the clipping diodes". We have...

18.07 seems to have quite a bit more bass and gain?

I think those settings are spot on for real amps of that style. Particularly, the bass control in Marshall tone stacks has most of the action between 8 and 10 o'clock. There is nothing "neutral" in the all controls at noon setting in most guitar amp tone stacks so just forget that and set...

Running Amp Head through Axe-Fx Via Reactive Load

Here's an old clip using a slaved amp and Axe FX for IR. Note that this is old tech, before Ultrares IRs. The signal chain is: Guitar --> Bogner Ecstasy 100B --> TubeTown tonehound as a load --> Axe FX Ultra (speaker sim + FX) From the Axe the signal went direct to FOH (split to recording...

Suggestions on what you've done to enjoy 18.03

I agree. Going over the I/O settings is not a big deal. However, it would be nice to have a way to export/import the two "big list" settings: custom scales and the MIDI CC assignments list. It would be great if Fractal-Bot or Axe-Edit could backup and restore those separately.

No, it is 1M max. However, it may or may not matter. This is the kind of thing that very much depends on the actual piezo pickup and cable length etc. It is probably best to try it with and without the preamp to find out if it makes a meaningful difference. Nothing special here, just set...

I'd guess that the number one cause for thinness is the 500k volume pot usually found in humbucker guitars. On some guitars I have soldered a resistor to the switch so that split coils get 250k load like strat pickups would have. Lowering the Axe FX input impedance setting would be another...

Small Controller for preset and cc changes?

  38. rdnzl

Small Controller for preset and cc changes?

My setup is as simple as possible. It just sends Program Change(PC) messages. I guess the easiest way to configure it for straight program changes is to do a factory reset. See "Factory Reset" on page 8 of the manual: http://www.peak2005.com/j/attachment.php?id_attachment=4

    Using MP-1 with AF2?

Yes. That will most definitely work. You can do that too if you want to stick drives or phaser etc. effects before the ADA. This routing needs a bit more care with signal levels to keep hiss from accumulating.

Hooking up the fx2 to a Mesa boogie mark series

I've done it with a Mark III and an Elmwood Modena. Worked great in both cases. Patching the Axe in front of an amp will have a little bit more noise than going in directly but a humbuster cable helps some.
  41. rdnzl

Question about running a real drive pedal in front

Yes. No, it won't. "The Input Level parameter only controls the signal-to-noise ratio at the input stage and does not affect gain in the signal chain." ... which means: YES, you can slam an AMP block input with a hardware pedal. Caveat: I haven't actually tried it. :D

Yes. There's lots of cool modding possibilities. One of the most drastic circuit changes we can do is moving the tonestack position. Also, AMP1 into AMP2 is a world of fun. Try the Triaxis model (with poweramp disabled) cascaded into a low gain amp. :shock That's true. As far as wishlist...

    First gig with FW13 tonight

Here's a little trick I use sometimes. The topmost filter block is for the rhythm sound. The lower filter is for the lead. The lead filter uses a 4th order high shelf cut with high Q to give a "parked wah" style midrange boost. The effect can be adjusted from mild to extreme with the Q value.

    ....Louder.

I'm not familiar with that preset but if it does not have a low cut somewhere after the amp block you might try adding one. Low frequencies eat power amplifier headroom. If there are any sub lows that are not really needed you should get some more volume by filtering them out. You can do...

Any tweaking tips for valve power amp/guitar cab setup?

I guess Mr. Miyagi has the solution: "Sag on - Sag off" In other words - do it per amp block and keep the global power amp modeling option on. For the vintagey amps that generate most of their distortion in the power amp you want sag on to keep the power amp modeling. For modern stuff turn...

Reamping Issues!!!! Setting input impedance for recording dry track

Yes, it is a part of a filter. The pickups and electronics in the guitar, the guitar cable and the input impedance of the device (Axe or amp or RME) are interacting and the result is a particular sound going into the device. I would keep the impedance at 1M and emulate the filtering at the...

    The New Bright Knob

The two knobs are not doing the same thing. The confusion comes from Mesa/Boogie using the word "presence" to describe a simple EQ in the preamp. Cab block -- why 20K hi-cut?

It is the IRs job to get the frequency response right. If it is too bright you might want to try different IRs. The high/low cut parameters are for additional tweaking. Like, if you would be in a studio with a real cab you might apply high or low cut at the mixing desk.
  82. rdnzl

Question about Cab Input type and Null mic?

Yes. Input select = left and Balance -100 for one cab. Input select = right and Balance +100 for the other. If Input select is "STEREO" and the cab mode (Effect Type parameter) is NOT stereo it will sum the left & right.
  83. rdnzl

EVH's original Plexi and the FAS Brit Brown amp

IR Dump feature not active till new Cab Lab arrives?

Yes, that's my understanding too. It's just that all of the tools for the complete workflow are not ready yet.
