Love the tuner frequency and cents offset values. Is that new from 19.03?

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 19.03

FAS Modern amp model seems to cause the output 1 LEDs to max out, but no actual sound going out. After this the axe fx seems to need to be restarted to get sound back.

I never hear anyone talking about "swirl" anymore. Is the Axe FX sufficiently swirly now?

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 14.02

Aussie here. It's interesting to me as I've realised while teaching my kids to read that often the American way of pronouncing things is more phonetic, compared to the Aussie way. I've grudgingly had to accept that the American way is often more sensible. But then the American way of saying Beta...

Year and half later; still not happy with Axe-Fx 3

These are models of preamps, but with some 'appropriate' power amp attached, right?
  16. M

[Fixed in 12.08] Still have pitch shift artifacts with 12.08 Beta 4

Cool - that's the same kind of effect I am getting on beta4 as well.
  17. M

Year and half later; still not happy with Axe-Fx 3

I wonder if the best approach is to just provide a DI of the guitar itself, and see how good a tone people can make with it.
  18. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 12.08 Public Beta 4

Yeah same experience here. It seems easy to trick it into 'warble' between different notes on single notes.

  21. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 12.08 Public Beta 3

I can hear what you mean, I think. The tail of the Space Designer one has this kind of 'bounciness' to it where the Axe FX one seems to be more like a standard "flat" reverb. At around the 3 second mark or so. I have no idea which one is more realistic though.

Wish Reference IRs by waveform instead of location

  29. M

For some reason, the sensitivity of the AXE FX III to different guitars really surprised me.

Doesn't it suggest something "inauthentic" in the models if real amps don't behave like this so much? Or is it more of a question about usually listening to amps through guitar cabs instead of via a mic'd signal path?

    Axe-Fx III vs AX8 - simple test

Not that it really matters, but I'd be curious to hear the comparison after your fix. Is that possible?
  33. M

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.01

Yeah that was my impression. I thought it was effectively installing a mod, but ideal was added for a version that didn't result in a realistic volume drop.
  34. M

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.01

Has the function of the saturation switch changed at some point or does it not work properly at the moment? Only "ideal" seems to do anything on any amp I've tried it on.
  35. M

    Axe-Fx III Factory Presets

I think you may have changed something. Channel D on the amp block is Capt Hook, but that isn't used in any of the scenes.
  36. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.00 Public Beta

Well, maybe. It depends on your use-case. For me I always want to play around with whatever has changed. A preset to me is a pretty vaguely defined thing - an amp with a cab combo that sounded a particular way and I enjoyed it at that point in time. I'm always keen to try a newer more detailed...
  37. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.00 Public Beta

I think if there's a choice it should probably be the opposite way around - make the default to use the new curves but to have a choice to go back to the old one, in the case that a preset has been tweaked in such a way that worked with the old curve.

FW 11b - Overview of New Speaker Impedance Modelling

Is it just me or is the apparent volume quite varied with different impedance curves? Cynically, I wonder whether you ended up on the apparent loudest of the lot?
  39. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.00 Public Beta

Yeah, sorry I didn't mean to say that changing this value was necessarily subtle, but just that changing between one of the cab resonances and the null is very obvious, in a way that the others are not.
  40. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.00 Public Beta

Yeah there's a difference between the default-selected "null" cab (for old presets) and changing the cab then reselecting null. See the graph on Axe Edit to see the difference. You would not have been hearing the null cab previously. The change isn't that significant.
  41. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 11.00 Public Beta

Ooh the shape of the curve is shown on Axe Edit Speaker tab in the Amp block. Cool.
  42. M

My weirdest tech issue with the Axe-Fx III so far

I had some audio issues (as in not playing audio at all) when switching between Axe FX and my sound card. I updated the USB firmware and driver, which were both quite old, and it seems much better now. Maybe worth checking these?
  45. M

    Axe-Fx Firmware Version 8.00

It seems I'm definitely at the limits of my ability to tell differences in the amps between these firmware updates. Maybe if I could instantly AB them while playing....

*FREE* Far-Field Session #2 Cab Pack

It looks like some of these IRs are 180 degrees out of phase with the others. E.g. the 4x12 Recto Far-Field B0. You can see these ones in the 'Align' tab of the Cab block where the initial peak on the graph goes downwards instead of upwards. Is that intentional, or a bug?

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Thanks for the picture, but I think I get that part of it. It's just that the original comment from FractalAudio seemed to be suggesting that to achieve less bass from the preamp to increase the mid and treble. But is that all that's necessary? I'm not sure what that has to do with the taper of...
  52. M

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Well, maybe? Within a specific domain, perhaps (e.g. the tone coming out at the end of the signal chain). A tube amp seems to have very complicated interactions between all the internal components, though. If, say, all of the BMT knobs have the same taper, surely these settings all on 5 will hit...
  53. M

Question about the Mark series graphic EQ modeling

Can you please elaborate on that? I can see that if you turn up the mid and treble that the relative balance is one of less bass, but does this also reduce the absolute amount of bass?
  54. M

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 5.00 Beta #3

I haven't tried the Herbie (3) in a long time, but was it always so dark an amp? Using EMG 81/85 pickup guitar and I really need to crank the treble and/or presence to open it up. Is that all just to do with my pickups? Not that I'm complaining, mind, as it sounds great when I do play with those...

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 3.01

I think this is just a sub-process of the spline reticulation.
  60. M

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 3.00

Knowing nearly nothing about reverbs, what has this firmware revision changed in the reverb block to allow these new cloudy reverb types? I had the feeling that these were just some extra preset configuration type things, but is it more than that?

    Cab Block Preamp. Do you?

I suppose not, but they do have the ability to move the microphone(s) and mix different microphones together. This is pretty similar to a huge amount of IRs, I think.

Thanks Cliff! Just one small bug I found. The virtual capo is spelled "Virutal Capo".
  66. M

Axe-Fx III Firmware 1.19 Public Beta

Using the pitch shifter to drop tune seems far more usable now. Almost can't feel the latency.

    Where X in (6, 12), presumably.
  68. M

    Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 1.17

Maybe less dynamic range, but more dynamic response? In that, if theres less compression, you hit the strings harder and the volume goes up by a similar amount, but with more compression the response isn't as linear? Or something... Edit: nah, that doesn't sound right. It sounds more like you...

Axe-Fx III Firmware Version 1.16 Beta

I think the Axe Edit problems may be just a symptom of something a bit more fundamental. Fractal Bot doesn't like it either, and I still can't update firmware back to 1.15.

    Recto Rev G vs Axe-III

Will you provide the 'answer' (if you haven't already somewhere I haven't seen)? While I understand the appeal of not doing so - perhaps the most useful outcome of this is the understanding that things are so close that it really doesn't matter - it'd still be interesting from an analysis...

Need To Restart - Making an Uberschall Scream?

I just noticed that @H13 identified that in the OP. My mistake. To me it sounds pretty clearly like two different tracks, as the note attack seems to be imperfectly aligned. It might be worth experimenting with double tracking to see if any of the valuable quality of the tone is coming from there.

Need To Restart - Making an Uberschall Scream?

The videos are also double tracked aren't they?

    Axe-Fx III in Australia

@pauly It was clear to me that this was a pre-order. I'm not sure why you would have thought otherwise. The second, bolded, sentence in the email was this: "Our first shipment of Axe-FX III is due to leave the Fractal Audio factory for Australia on the 29th of June."

    Modeler Stress Test

I dunno, I think it is. "Good" is subjective. The guitar tone in "Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the sky" sounds good to me, but not for the same reasons that I like other "good" guitar tones.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 7.02 Public Beta

Why do you think that's a bug? If all speakers naturally compress in this kind of situation, wouldn't it make sense to have some non-zero default?
  86. M

Are there any Axe FX owners here who have never owned a conventional amp?

Absolutely. This was 6 years ago or something, though, so sometimes I forget how bad it used to be. I gave the Spider to my dad, so I get to play it every now and then. Very stark difference for sure.

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

Sure. I wasn't saying it should be the only option. But a preset single value for speaker drive per amp probably doesn't simulate anything particularly well.
  90. M

Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.02 Firmware Released

Shouldn't the speaker drive be a function of the block's output volume, or something, anyway? I can't imagine that a tube amp has a constant amount of speaker drive at all volumes.

Its Hard to Say Good bye, MK II Users :(`

That only applies for amp model updates, not other blocks. The drive block, wah, reverb, etc changes would cause the need to revisit all presets in the new firmware. The amp block modelling version is not a panacea.
