Gain with Plexi style amps

This is what I do, along with adjusting the bright cap to what I need. I find the plexi/vintage Marshalls modeled tend to have more gain than I'm used to as well, but the Axe allows you to adjust for this no problem.

How different is the Echoplex preamp from EP Booster, Tape Dist in drive block, & jsantiago's IR?

A lot of local players I now use the EP Booster.. they're great. Keep an eye out for Catalinbread's new Belle Epoch Pre Deluxe (naming might be off a hair) they've been working on.. I think it will reset the bar for actual pedals of this type.

Anyone have experience with K and K pick ups with the AxeFX?

The system Maton has in there guitars is the best I've heard/tried. A friend who owns a number of very high-end acoustics recently got his first Maton for live gigs where he's plugged in/amplified using his own Meyer PA system (he gots cash). The Maton is unreal for this purpose..

This FW sounds killer.. I didn't get to spend a ton of time w/ 7.02, so I'm not entirely sure how they compare. All I know is that I'm able to get killer sounds from what ever amp/IR pairings I work up, so far. Thanks for the continued support for the MK 1 Cliff. Much appreciated.

I didn't like it at 0.5 through FRFR (which is how I use the Axe all the time). I was having to zero it out for every preset after 7.02. Glad to have ti default to zero for Q8.

When you update firmware is they're a reset for all amps?

You can always do that yourself if you think it will help. This has gone on since the beginning.. people don't read the release notes, the manual, the wiki, previous threads, etc. They just ask the question. I see it as human nature. These types of questions are not hard to figure out on one's...

The humble spring reverb...

I hear you.. I'm not good at completely replicating my analog gear with the Axe typically.. I just shoot for close or use the analog gear itself, espeically when it comes to fuzz or pedals that have a certain EQ signature that I can't quite nail.

Building a home stereo -passive or active speakers?

I have some Sierra 1's I love.. bought some b-stock for a killer deal a few years back. I run a sub as well.. set very low, just to supplement the sierra's. Using an older Yamaha 5 channel receiver. I also use a 70's Marantz receiver with them at times. They sounds great for two channel audio...

The old outboard reverb units add some "drive" or slight push and compression, so they alter the tone going into the amp along with the verb. Kind of like an echoplex, although I don't think either sound the same per say.

Optical compressor in actual use

Same thought here.. I like using a compressor at times for the effect and sound it imparts (doing heavy compressed slide al la Little Feat), but using a compressor with an overdriven (or gained up) amp doesn't make sense to me.

At bedroom/apartment levels only, I would go w/ monitors (FRFR) vs. a tube amp and actual speaker cab. You'll get more versatility and variety between various amp models than you would running through a tube amp's power section and that one V30 speaker.

Parameter For A More Open/Less Compressed Feel

You might also consider something like the Friedman Small Box 50 model.. I think the preamp in that one is less compressed (and lower gain) than the HBE amps. I prefer the 60's and 70's Marshall models over all the Friedman models for that very reason.

yea- the CLR's produce frequencies below 100 Hz for sure Levi. Maybe you had the sub switch on the CLR set to on when you did this test?

Fractal Audio DRIVE models: Full OD (based on Fulltone Full-Drive 2)

The OCD is more of a Marshall style pedal vs. the Full Drive being a Tube Screamer derivative.. at least that's what I'm remembering. Not sure of the specifics of the circuits and how/where they differ. But they take you in very different directions, IMO.

Saw Robben Ford last night...

I like where he's at these days, using less gain and doing more R&B type stuff vs. the higher gain stuff from the "Talk to Your Daughter" days.. I've seen him several times in the last few years and enjoyed every show, especially seeing him play w/ Travis Carlton.

For the love of natural strats

I love the look of natural finishes, but I don't own any currently. I have an unfinished body I bought off of Dan Strain (Danocaster) that I will likely keep natural and just put a finish on it if I can ever find a neck I like for it.

Amp Model or Tone - What's Important to You?

Actual playing... then tone. Don't care what amp model it ends up being. But man that playing is 99% of it for me.. don't care how good the equipment is, etc.

Amps & cabs AEROSMITH may have use on 1st few albums? ?

I would assume vintage Marshall and Ampeg amps for the most part.. maybe some vintage Fender amps in the studio here or there. Or whatever was available otherwise. Not many pedals around back then..

New Cab Pack! OwnHammer - 412 MAR Vintage Green - Player's Pack

Not answering for Kevin, but I think that MAR 212 cab pack has both pre-rola Celestion 75 Hz G12M's as well as the the newer Scumback version. This new cab pack has just the pre-rola version (I believe the same exact speaker). Not sure of they are the exact same IR's (from the same shoot) though.

Fuzz tone question...

mr_fender and barhrecords are spot on with the suggestions for stacking drive models w/ fuzz, IMO. I'll often use a GEQ along with a fuzz model for similar reasons.

Similar on my end.. I have quite a few cab packs, especially going back to Kevin's (Ownhammer) earlier releases, etc. But I just don't mess with them a lot because of the time it takes to get to an end result, never mind the tweaking I do after various FW releases. What I've done up to now is...

Love the idea of this approach Kevin.. I fit squarely into this more recent demographic of tweak less and get me to the desired result fast. I don't have the patience or interest to tweak cab mixes all day. And I have a ton of your IR's going back to the beginning.
