    Downgrading to FW9

Exactly this. If you want to stop hearing the "fanboy" crowd crap, then stop grouping everyone who "doesnt like the AxeFX" into one group of "incompetent/user-error/inexperienced" players.. There are people from both camps that are extremists who just like to cause problems; and realize almost...

    Downgrading to FW9

This sounds pretty insane. If it truly does what you say, I may have to start becoming a "fanboy", lol. See, there was a positive side to V9 people complaining. That is pretty "innovative" for modelling terms. As I do like FW11 for certain clean amp tones (very delicate, touch sensitive ones...

    Downgrading to FW9

I was joking with that comment, but im not surprised it was taken seriously. I just think it was a harsh transition from FW 9 to FW 10 (for most people, not just myself) - maybe if the Triode was defaulted to 5-6 or so, it would give a bit more of a middle ground. But I get it, like I said...

    Downgrading to FW9

Triode Hardness seems to make all the difference.. I'll start calling that the "Suck" knob. Turn it down and the suck goes away. (in all seriousness, I can see its usefulness on certain amps; although I don't agree with it being at 8.5 default.. but most of the amps I prefer, I'll keep it at 0)

    Downgrading to FW9

Well, when every response about anyone not liking the latest firmware is followed by "Every PRO at Axefest liked FW11" or "user errors is only way it sounds bad".. Completely passive-aggressive suggestioning that anyone who doesnt live and die by Cliff's words are either unskilled, not...

    Downgrading to FW9

I never stated FW9 was better, just better for me. Anyways, Im trying to get my buddy to bring his Ultra over and I'll A/B them up.. It might make more sense for me to go with the Ultra, especially when that money difference can be used on new guitars.

    Downgrading to FW9

Reminds me of this thread - http://forum.fractalaudio.com/axe-fx-ii-discussion/70148-fw10-has-really-f-d-up-my-mesa-patches-lots-work-back-v6.html Lenny D (who I consider a "pro" player - not just playing church gigs) made a comment how he prefers FW6 because FW10 ruined his mesa patches.. Got...

    Downgrading to FW9

I just downgraded to V9 today too, just to finally try it out.. and I hate to say it but, HUGE difference. I get all the tone I want finally, after struggling so hard for 7 months with FW 10 and FW 11, even with Ownhammer IR's. I was about to sell the II and go back to the Ultra, but V9 seems to...
  9. S

FW 11 is best yet...the best, just got better.

I will say, I was strongly considering selling the II and getting an Ultra again when FW 10 came out, it was just terrible IMO.. nothing sounded right. but FW 11 helped it finally sound good enough to the point where Im happy with the tone. The only firmware that lived up to the hype imo

    Matrix Reaper -- any info?

geez, Matrix is really trying to take over the market, aren't they? Now this may interest me.. I've been having concerns lately with powered monitors and looking into the Matrix GT rackmount but I wanted something smaller to fit into my rack.. Hmm.

    IR's for high gainers...

Yeah thats true; I use your Orange IR's for pretty much everything, except one other IR I downloaded from someone else here (forget who) for some cleans.
  12. S

    IR's for high gainers...

I normally can't get into the "most popular" IRs and patches (hated the Pete Thorn ones, sorry) and thats for either gain OR clean/jazz type stuff.. but I really did enjoy the free Ownhammerz pack last year for metal, especially with the Ultra (not so much with the II) - I will be picking up the...

    Mackie DLM-8 ?

thanks ElectricPhase, I think I may try one now instead of getting the RCF NX10SMA (to be fair, double the cost, and much bigger/heavier than I want, but Im afraid I'll require it if the DLM8 doesnt work out like my ZXA1 didnt) Did you feel it compares/translates well to studio monitors...

    Line6 L2(3)T and AxeFx

I tried one out with the Ultra, the smallest/cheapest one.. and I didnt like it at all to be honest. It was brittle and thin sounding, where my Ultra sounded monsterous and detailed through the Yorkville NX55P 2 minutes later at the store.. That being said, apparently the upper end Line 6...

"FRFR" that sounds most like studio monitors??

unfortunately my music stores locally have junk; basically Yorkville and Mackie (but not any new Mackie stuff, not even the old HD series which ss.org raves about) - so my options are limited there. I actually just tried my AxeFX II into my old Carvin X100B combo with amp sims off just for...

"FRFR" that sounds most like studio monitors??

really Hi-Fi, defined and detailed, crisp clear notes (As if you were listening back to a recording in a studio control room, rather than inside the mic'd up iso amp-room) - I see tube amps as having a "raw" sound that kinda just blends everything together, and thats why I didnt like the Matrix...

"FRFR" that sounds most like studio monitors??

Long story short, I've tried the EV ZXA1 and Matrix Q12, but neither have been really satisfying to me. But the Axe-FX II into my studio monitors (even just a cheap pair of M-Audio's) is great. So is there any that really nail that hi-fi studio clarity and detail?? Im about to try the Mackie...

NL12 Neolight ( 17lb ) are in stock ready for shipping

Care to take a picture of it? I'd be curious to see it. Im probably going to try the Mackie DLM 8 first, but if that doesnt work for me I dunno where to turn next.. I didnt enjoy the Matrix Q12 but im assuming thats because the Matrix poweramp makes a huge difference in the setup with the AxeFX II.

NL12 Neolight ( 17lb ) are in stock ready for shipping

might be a stupid idea, but can a GM-50 be cut into the back of one of these things?? I tried the Q12 and it didnt work for me (granted, it was without the GM50 poweramp; using a Carvin tube poweramp instead) but it was also still a bit too heavy ideally for me at 35 lbs.. If this NL12 is 17...

Best Small FRFR that sounds like Studio Monitors - HiFi sound?

I guess I'd like to keep it under $1000.. solely because since I wont be able to try it out before buying (nowhere here stocks anything but Yorkville and Line6) - I dont wanna risk spending so much without hearing it first I wish I could just use studio monitors as wedges/personal monitors live...

Best Small FRFR that sounds like Studio Monitors - HiFi sound?

So I've experimented a lot unfortunately, and im still not 100% happy.. I started the journey into FRFR with the Axe Ultra and a EV SX300A - which was pretty good I'll admit (although the Yorkville NX50P was better) but I decided to upgrade to the AxeFX II. With the II, my SX300A sounded...

    Why use a power conditioner

well now im running Axe-FX II into a powered monitor, no more tubes at all.. so can I just plug it all into the conditioner, and use that as a "master ON switch" without any worry of damaging stuff?
  25. S

    Why use a power conditioner

do you have any concern with everything turning on at the same time, rather than in "stages"?? (I know the Carvin conditioner does this, but I use a voltage regulator) - will it damage the speakers or axe-fx or anything if you have one turn on before the other?? Maybe its because I used to use...

I dunno how similar it is, but my first show on bass in a metal (tech metal) band where I actually used my fingers instead of using a pick, I somehow got a small metal sliver (from those stupid bass strings) stuck in my nail.. like a good 4mm in! Hurt like a mother for like 2 weeks until I...

Has anyone played AxeFXII through the new Mackie DLM 12?

these interest me soo much.. But, I decided solely for the fact there are no used ones on the market so the prices for a new DLM8 are still ~700, that for now I will get a EV ZXA1 which is half that price, and see if I like it. I want t like it so much, it looks great and has great size and...

FW10 has really F-d UP my Mesa Patches :( ... lot's of work or back to V6???

Im kinda glad I came in at 10.05, cause I havent heard how great the other firmwares are, and now I wont know because im going to force myself to go forward. That would suck having a better tone but no axe-edit, so im thankfully going to just live with 10 and above.

Questions about placing cables/etc ontop of the Axe II after gigs

I have some functional questions about how I want to set up my rig. I have a small rack. There will be 1U open space between the AxeFX II and the power conditioner. So, for transporting, I figured I can use that 1U of space for cables and possibly even a small pedal or two. (It would save me...

only about 10 hours, im gonna play it for another week just to be sure, but I was never a tube amp guy and I actually want that polished guitar tone like you hear through studio monitors.. Also, with the II it just makes any speaker sound fantastic, I dont feel like having a $1000 speaker...

    EV ZXA1 - 2013 opinions?

Hey, I know everyone is obsessed with the CLR, Q12 and RCF NX12, but the first thing I realized with the II when I got it yesterday is that it made my old 90s EV SX300A sound great, where as it was dull and lifeless with the Ultra. So, I feel much more content with the lower priced monitors, and...

Can't decide which way to go for Sterero. Help!! (Q12 vs. Bogner and GT1000FX)

Tone match challenge, Steve Vai Legacy 3

I was super close to buying a Legacy 3 before getting my Ultra.. so that was one of the top 3 things that pushed me over to edge to sell the Ultra and get a II.. Hoping the II Legacy amp sim sounds great, but I'd love this patch also.
  47. S

    Roll back or not? Undecided

and thats what I mentioned earlier - Im afraid of FW10, as someone who hasnt heard an Axe II since FW 4 or so, I bought it thinking I would get what you guys are describing FW 9 to be; "polished", punchy fullness that can cut.. I sold my Kemper because while it was undoubtedly the most "real" of...

What in the world is XiTone up to now??????

It wouldnt be the first; Mick already made a 2x10 combo with an Ultra in the back before.. But I dunno if the old one had a poweramp, while it looks like this one may (im assuming) be holding a Matrix GM50 in that slot in the back.

Strongly considering Axe-Fx II; just a couple questions

I think it depends on how much "in debt" the II will put you; and what you need it for / what bugs you about the differences. If its going to max out your credit card or anything drastic, I say go with the Ultra. For me though, since I just got a good chunk of money, Im finally making the...

  52. S

    Roll back or not? Undecided

and thats why I went with the Axe over the Kemper.. I just hope it doesnt lose that ability.. I could care less if it sounds "135% like a tube amp". But like my Ultra, I'l probably stick with the Fractal amp sims, rather than the ones based on real amps, besides a select few like the Lonestar.
  53. S

    Roll back or not? Undecided

Im getting mine next week im assuming with FW 10, but this does sound annoying; I sold my kemper because it sounded "TOO" realistic, in the sense I couldnt get the type of "unrealistic" amp tweaking like the Ultra did.. now with this MIMIC junk, sounds like I may need to stay on 9 also. does...

    Matrix CFR12s ... they're here :)

I'm not biased towards just fractal; you can't deny the kemper is basically a tube amp in sound.. I'm getting an axe II as that's what I'm after; more effects heavy, tweakable amps that behave unnaturally (in a good way) that's where the II shines in my eyes.

    Backups and No MIDI Live

my plan for the ultimate rig has this set up for a backup (main is Liquid Foot Jr+ and Mission Engineering pedals) Zoom MS-50G (smallest pedal with amp sims/effects) as backup if the Axe went down, hopefully enough to get through the show on 2-3 presets. I am getting a Standard soon, and wanting to get a 1U poweramp to pair with it. Obviously, the Matrix is the "chosen one" but I want a bit more tube tone (rather than relying on the axe-fx tube emulation) along with the Matrix being double the cost of these two poweramps.. Im gonna give one of...

Impulses through Real cab with flatter speakers (EV, Deltas)

Thanks. I assumed FRFR systems were like that; require a ton of experimentation and $$$ to find the right one that sounds "right".. The ones i've tried so far (most of the ones under a grand) did not sound good to me, so why get it?? Money and experimentation are things I dont have/want to deal...

Impulses through Real cab with flatter speakers (EV, Deltas)

It IS the fact I already have the equipment. I have cabs custom made to my specs (without speakers sent), also specced out to run optimized with Eminence Deltalite II's, so they are being used no matter what. I just threw in the talk of EVM's for discussions sake. I've tried "true" FRFR rigs...

Impulses through Real cab with flatter speakers (EV, Deltas)

Im new to the impulse game, but just wondering how I can use them to my advantage the most (im mostly a live player, so im talking purely amped setup, not recording) I know the "IDEAL" way to use them is with a FRFR speaker.. but I dont want to go down that road. what I do want though, is a...

The new MATRIX GT800FX. THE amp for THE Axe-Fx

Canada, so chances are getting either the XT's or GT is going to be a difficult challenge, but at least a used XT would probably be cheaper not only in cost, but since its not from the factory, shipping/customs will generally be better (same reason I would never order anything from Fractal...

The new MATRIX GT800FX. THE amp for THE Axe-Fx

Im interested in hearing how significant the difference between the GT800FX and the XT500 is?? I know the GT800 is designed specifically for guitars, where as the XT500 is not so the input is different.. but im not really super picky about my poweramp (of course I want something better than the...
