Guthrie Govan With The Axe FX III

He's been a user since I remember getting the ultra about 12 or so years ago! He's a long time user of the axe and whatever he gets his hand on to be honest, a true guitar genius! ๐ŸŽธ

What was your first Digital Modeler?

Though not my first modeler by a long shot I have to make special mention of the vg-99. It was by far the most comprehensive and detailed unit up till the time of the axe fx standard Though not in the same league as the axe sound wise, it has the most complete package, everything from guitar to...

That is absolutely NUTS!!! Amazing job!!!๐Ÿ‘ Speaks also to very efficient algorithms and coding, this is kinda crazy to be honest, I don't think there's any other audio device I know of that does this kind of and amount of processing at THIS speed! I'll almost always going to use 'Best...

What was your first Digital Modeler?

Yeah it's a great concept, I love the form factor of the ST in particular (despite its lack of footswitches!!!) , and fact that they used an actual tube for some of the sounds. I love the tiny, all in one package ๐Ÿ“ฆ Also, to Cliff's point, without some of these terrible modelers we won't be...

I'm also thoroughly ashamed and embarrassed to have gigged the offerings from zoom, the digitech RPs, various pods, boss GTs and roland VG gear, korg, vox, and a host of others....usually I'd play a total of one gig with them believing they'd sound great, and ditch them in favor of my amps...

What was your first Digital Modeler?

I was JUST going to post this!! Well the mark ii version, it was a little rounder, but just as bad I think it had like 2 usable tones in it, I used switched to tubes and used it as a portable tuner haha I've also used and tried every digital device under the sun since I think.....always...

Axe-Fx III Firmware Release Version 19.02 Public Beta

The graying out of knows will likely be a global change, and might more than likely break things Which is why I suggested a little text 'notes' section that alerts the user to 'use only in stereo', or 'tonestack inability for this model' or something like that Doesn't break anything but still...

Using a lowpass filter instead of an IR solves most of the 'amp in the room' quandry.

I think it's a great little trick! Why not use it with an IR and mix them to get a perfect blend of great sound and 'amp in the room' then? Best of both worlds!

[SOLVED] My Guitar sounds incredibly fuzzy, flabby, and frankly awful with modern high gain tones - what can I do to fix the sounds?

Yeah ceramics are where it's at tone wise for me. I actually find they have a much better top end, and although they have a bad rap as 'cheap pickup material' I've found them much more balanced and sweeter overall
  51. jon

What guitars do you use with Fender amp models?

Depending though.....sometimes depending on the amp I prefer the low cut at the cab block, like Marshall's, and for Mesas I prefer it on the amp block to tighten it up

  54. jon

[SOLVED] My Guitar sounds incredibly fuzzy, flabby, and frankly awful with modern high gain tones - what can I do to fix the sounds?

It IS! I have no idea why people still do them like that when you can just stuff some foam or a couple springs there and make life easy..... That and the fact that people ARE STILL MAKING teles with non-adjustable neck pickups when it's such an easy fix blows my mind!
  55. jon

[SOLVED] My Guitar sounds incredibly fuzzy, flabby, and frankly awful with modern high gain tones - what can I do to fix the sounds?

You may have missed it, but I think your answer is right here: And here: JBs are known to be hot and kinda flubby/bass. They're more of a jazz pickup though they're pretty popular otherwise Lowering your pickup height, using less gain, low cuts and watching Leon's video will help you get...
  56. jon

[SOLVED] My Guitar sounds incredibly fuzzy, flabby, and frankly awful with modern high gain tones - what can I do to fix the sounds?

This Had that same problem some time ago, pickups were too hot and too close to the strings, instant flub Try another guitar to be sure
  57. jon

What guitars do you use with Fender amp models?

I have the tone caps clipped on quite a few 'dark' or 'muddy' guitars and it turned them into bangers! It's a great trick that costs absolutely nothing and can be the difference between you selling the guitar and rocking out on it!
  58. jon

What guitars do you use with Fender amp models?

Mostly single coil type guitars suit them best I think, or lower output pickups
