Well then, you should check out what I'm waiting for right now. Auto-tune, perfect intonation, various tunings, etc. IN YOUR OWN GUITAR via this:

Are we stuck using that magnetic pickup as our pickup? Or does it somehow allow us to use our guitars actual pickups?

I asked on the company's product forum: you can use either a bridge piezo or a magnetic hex pickup like in the photo. I don't believe it will work with the traditional guitar pickup you use.

Shotgunn, you and I are more metal players, ergo, palm-muting is important for us to do cleanly. Antares recommends using the magnetic hex pickup in this case.

and if you already have the Roland GK3 pickup on your guitar, they are also coming out with a floor unit that will have the same features

Rubbish. No offense, but c'mon, this isn't bringing player and equipment closer - this is just getting weird and sterile IMHO.

But hey, whatever floats yer boat - to each their own.

Well, for me, I would prefer having one guitar instead of four in different tunings. Also, the slight intonation problem spots on the neck drive me crazy at times.

The guitar is a flawed device, and some of those flaws are great and "art"... and some of those flaws can just be annoying. The Antares can always be turned off...

If the Antares doesn't do a good job to my ears, I'll just remove it. No harm in experimenting.

I'll be interested to see how this turns out for you. I found the sound to be a bit sterile when I tried one of the Peaveys at GC, but I also didn't try it through the Axe. I do like the concept though... if it could be implemented well it could easily find it's way into one of my guitars.
