Axe Edit recognizes the Axe Fx Ultra but does not do anything

    Hi guys,
I am using midi to usb cables to connect my Axe Fx Ultra to my Imac Desktop. I downloaded the axe edit and made proper connectons. Status shows my Axe Fx Ultra and the firmware version is 10.04 the ID= 00 01 74
Now I wanted to update my firmware to the lastest firm ware 11 as it has some of the G2 technology which I certainly want to hear. I followed the proper procedures of transferring the data from the computer to the axe via Axe Edit. When the transfer completed it said something like firm ware not recognized and my axe still remains on the old 10.04 firmware. I even increased the Midi Buffer Delay but that made no difference. I tried using the axe edit to set up a patch when I clicked on save it started saving it but when it got to 100 percent it gave an error and it said BAD CHECKSUM. So basically while the Axe edit recognizes my device I cannot update any firmware nor edit any patches through it. Please get back to me soon.

    Cheers.

    Which midi to usb cables?
    The problem is likely there.
Try your Mac's midi file utility (Sysex Librarian?) to send instead. If it fails, it your interface that does not support a bulk sysex dump that is a firmware upgrade.

Thanks I'll look in to it.
    I am using E-MU
Midi to USB cables it's plug and play.
It does show in the axe edit and even recognizes the axe fx ultra but no transfers or upgrades happen. There is always an error when it comes down to that.
I'll look in to it though.

The Sysex Librarian reads the files I wasn't able to transfer though from that application cause it didn't have a send button. I tried Axe Edit again it reads the Fractal Axe fx Ultra basically recognizes it. Regardless the saving still shows BAD CHECKSUM. The firm ware doesn't get upgraded. When the transfer is complete then it basically says it failed and the version still remains to the be the old one. I really don't know how to get this to work. Another thing is that while the Axe Edit is reading everything and even responding to the axe when I move from one preset to another it does so but the midi light isn't always green.Instead it sometimes doesn't even show green and is basically off. But the Axe Edit still recognizes the device and responds to it but saving any changes or trying to upgrade the firmware never happens unfortunately. Extra help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried new drivers for your E-MU cable?

Hi nope I haven't. Didn't realize that maybe that should solve the problem. I'll do it right away.
    Thanks.

E-Mu on Mac doesn't need drivers. It's class compliant.

I have an E-Mu 1x1Tab and it works ok. Sometimes I have this same issue. Here are a few steps that usually help:

    1. Quit Axe-Edit
    2. Power off the Axe-Fx
    3. Plug the E-Mu into a different USB port
    4. Power on the Axe-Fx
    5. Start Axe-Edit

If that doesn't work, restart the Mac to clear the driver cache.

    Hi thanks.
Still no progress. I did the things you told me I quit Axe Edit then turned off the Axe Fx Ultra then plugged it in to a different USB port then turned it on then opened Axe edit. It was still recognizing the device but when I tried to save a patch it still said BAD CHECKSUM. After that I closed everything restarted the computer and decide to upgrade to firm ware 11 as it was recognizing the Axe device. When the progress finished it said "Firmware Update Unknown (Hardware is still at same version.) Please check your MIDI settings and try again" now the Axe-Fx Sysex ID is 00 01 74 Pre 10.02 Firmware 'decimal' ID is 372. MIDI Buffer Size 256 and MIDI Buffer Delay is 500 ms. I have kept it to the max as someone suggested to increase the Midi Buffer Delay. So the problems are still arising what do I do now?

That MIDI Buffer delay is way too high. Try setting the buffer size to 128 and the delay to 90. I think I kept mine at default and it's working...Only difference for me is I'm on a MacBook Pro instead of iMac...
