Help with TMA and Mark V
Hi all,
I tried Tone Matching the Mark I crunch sound at 6:40 or so in this video
John Petrucci -- Mark V -- Settings and Tone Tips (Part 1) - YouTube
I tried using the USA Lead and Mark IIc+ amps - all of them really. I owned a Quad for a few years and from what I remember keeping the treble high and the bass low is the key. For some reason I'm just not getting it however. I set my source to USB channel right as the tone on this vid seemed better on that side. Anyone care to take a shot at it? I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks!

Hi. I don't have that kind of pickups at all on my guitar but I had a Mark V before I bought my Axe II. At around 6.40 in that video he is not playing the Mark I mode. Its the Crunch mode and that mode is actually really different from the mk IV and mk II modes. It's a lot more grainy and less smooth and you can use a higher bass setting for some reason as you can see in the video. I would actually try some completely different amp in the axe than any of the Mark amps. Maybe a Soldano or Bogner XTC. I could be wrong but that's what I would do. If you would like to tone match when he plays the Mark I mode at the end if the video I would try the Texas Lonestar or whatever it's called in the axe since that is a variation of the Mark I.
Good luck.

Gave it a shot too, sounds kinda close (well, reminiscent would be more exact) but it's definitely not the same thing...
Hope this helps somehow anyway

Crunch on channel 2 is a kind of hot rodded Marshally thang... With Mesa tone involved.. Kind of.
