Video - Let the guitar do the talking

As Tom Quayle used one of my presets on one of his videos video, I had to do the same Here's me improvising with a slightly modified version of his Bassman preset. This is my last video for 2012, recorded yesterday. Some sloppy parts, I didn't play much these two last weeks. Happy new year everyone !

It's pretty decent sounding, but that guitar just doesn't have the guts for that style and tone.

I agree, on his own soundcloud demo of his preset Tom Quayle sounds much better... But this guitar is all I can afford, got it used for 400 euros, all my budget went to the Axe Fx. I do have an USA strat at home which isn't mine. It sounds much better for that style but I can't use its vibrato the way I do on the Ibanez

While we are on the subject, which guitar, not exceeding the US $ 1000 barrier, would have "the tone", while having the specs I need – a fast 24 frets neck, Floyd type vibrato, dual humbucker config (middle sc would be ok too), and would be versatile enough to play other things besides classic metal ? Would a Rasmus modern fit the bill ? Or, even a pickup upgrade on my Ibanez, like Bareknuckles ?

with your i banez you can also do this

    - replace ur trem block with a brass big block (needs modifying to keep full trem range) and all stainless screws, bolts, blocks and different saddles (ive had my saddles machined from different alloys)
    - use a tremel-no and set it to hard tail mode (it also has a better claw)
    - set the neck in it (i have done b4 it works)
    - sand all the miles and miles of clear coat of of it
    - and put some SD pups in it

    hope this helps

A pickup upgrade is all you need provided you like everything else about the guitar. Getting a higher end guitar in mauritius is going to be extremely expensive and the weather there isn't going to be kind to it.

A pickup upgrade would definitely be the cheaper solution, with the added benefit that I will also be able to upgrade my JTV's stock pickups with the DiMarzio from my Ibanez

I guess it's time to investigate some Bare Knuckles. At first sight, the Holydiver, Nailbomb, Rebel Yell and Crawler all look interesting !

FWIW, I don't hear anything wrong with your current setup. I think it sounds great! It's far more likely that patch just isn't hot enough for artificial harmonic laden shred. Big deal. You have a million amazing sounding patches!

in fact I'm going to work on that preset with a tone match in first column to mimic another guitar pickup
