    First time user seeking guidance!

    Hey guys,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Kyle, and I play lead guitar in a Toronto based metal band called KodessA (www.facebook.com/kodessamusic). I'm a very new AXE user, and I was hoping to draw on the collective well of knowledge, that is this amazing community.

In my research, I've noticed that it seems much easier to dial in a great clean sound than a dirty, chugging metal tone. Be that user error/preference/etc... I'm still throwing the question out there.

Where should I start? I'm running PRS guitars into the AXEFX, which is running into a new Mac, monitored by Yamaha HS-80's. For an idea of what I'm going for, I'm running a boogie Dual Recto, and a Fender twin for cleans for my live setup.

Thanks for reading, and any advice!

I would start with a FAS modern. That's where the metal is

As far as it being easier to dial in cleans... I find the exact opposite. Metal is easy with the FAS modern and a few others (DAS Metall and 6160).

    welcome!
since you are very new to the axe fx, i would definitely suggest viewing the axe fest west coast 2012 videos stickied above.
as you are now listening through monitors, i would also suggest playing around with different cab choices in the cab block, as these have a lot of effect on the amp block.
    all the best!

Hi there, welcome. I live in Ottawa. Happy to see a fellow Canuck!

I would start with strictly amps and cabs. Just those two blocks. Dial in each amp, play at rehearsal volume and see what strikes your fancy. Swap out some cabs too and see how that shapes your overall tone. I'm amazed what I can accomplish with just those two blocks. When you get your base sounds figured out and are happy, start to build in any effects you might like, Reverbs, Delays, Chorus etc.

    Good luck!

I like the Rectos myself. All 4 are good. Also I find the Diezel Amps to be very similar in to the Rectos.
My Main Dirty Tones are the Diezel VH4 Ch3 and Ch4 and the Recto Orange Vintage and Recto Red Modern.
A good trick is to add a Looper to your Chain so You can Play a Phrase and have it keep playing it back while you Try Different things.
Start with Amps and Cabs, experiment with different Combinations.
I personally found the Microphone setting on the Cab to be quite Magical.
I have been using the R121 a lot. It gives a sound that knocks off the Nasty Highs while warming the Patch up.
The 5153 Amps and FAS Modern are good choices too.
