Hmmm... I'm not doing something right. Tried record many and it stopped at 34 messages, 848 bytes and says Waiting for sysex message. I tried setting Sysex to all available options (MIDI, MIDI IN, Port 1). Dumped preset to USB and even tried MIDI. Nothing.
But wait.... I guess it was done. I selected done and the file says "untitled-5" at 6.s kb.
Tested it and it saved back to the Axe. Success!!
Now, is there a way to have the preset name show up in Sysex? It saves back with the correct name but it would be nice toi see that in Sysex.

That's good.
I long for a nice nylon stringed guitar...
Doing this:
"For faster operation select Sysex->Configure and set things as follows:
Delay between buffers: 35
Delay after F7: 35"
...gave me memory error messages, so I put those values back to 65 and it worked![]()

Okay, I have tried finding this but can not find an answer. I have watched the video for the mac too although I am using the PC version of MIDI-OX and yes I read the manual.
I used the instructions above and updated firmware okay......and loaded a preset okay.....the only problem is....when I load a single preset it always loads to preset 384 (or the last preset) no matter what preset I am on. Anyone else experience this? I can then save it and move it but it would be nice for it to save to the preset I am on like it shows in the video. Am I missing a preference setup? I have combed the manual but it says it should load to the selected preset....
Thanks,
That is not happening like that with my saved presets They overwrite the Axe-FX location where they were originally programmed!!
I saved them all using the option "Save bank as presets" of the Axe-Edit (before it was banned), and now I can not load them without deleting the existing slot on the Axe-FX.
I hope that this will be fixed on the next version of the Axe-Edit.
I attach one sample.
WARNING: This preset will overwrite whatever you have on position 68 (Bank A) as soon as you send it to the Axe-FX (without warning)

i'm gonna unpack and plug in my axe fx just to try loading this preset. sounds funky that it overwrites, it shouldn't do that.

I have found why it overwrites the preset at the original slot. It was already explained by Cliff. (thank you zenkick)

You can try the utility i posted above. It will always load the preset into the edit buffer (no overwrite).

Any tips for doing this on a Mac? What sysex application are people using?
So, are you saying the the only connection needed for this is USB between the computer and the Axe-FX unit? No midi cables connected?
I've tried this process of loading a preset several times now, word for word, and it all seems to go smoothly as described until I right click to send the Sysex on the box called "Sysex Scratch Pad" with all the pairs of numbers...then , nothing happens. No Midi lights on the unit...nothing saved...no change at all to the Axe-fx. Is there an additional step I need to take? Am I missing something? Feel like I'm SO close to getting this right!
Thanks for your help.
Dave
Just a word of caution for anyone thinking of trying this: If you absolutely love your patches and spent hours upon hours tweaking... just wait for axe edit or be sure to have a recent backup file handy. I tried this yesterday with moderate success but for some strange reason my axe stored some of the presets I loaded and I lost a patch or two that I really liked. And no I did NOT hit the store button, yet somehow some presets decided to store themselves.

ENGL SE/Invader
Framus Cobra
Maxon OD-808
Vader IR's
Henning Cherry Bomb
Bray 4550
DAR Future Breed Machine
If saved wrong, the single presets can also save automatically.
Always load presets into a position you don't need, just in case.
Again, full Banks always overwrite the entire bank!

I am also a 2 month old so to speak. The following is what I do, if anyone finds errors in the explanation I will try to correct. This may seem complicated but it not too bad really.
This may or may not be obvious, but when you send something to the AXE via MIDI, I guess its always "ready" to listen. However, MIDI-OX is not when you send something from AXE to MIDI-OX. Hence you need to do the following.
- You said you have no trouble downloading presets to the AXE so I will assume two things. MIDI-OX is working for you & you are using via USB
- Next, I am not sure that there would be a problem, but I happen not to do this when my DAW is running. Meaning I simply avoid two things (DAW and MIDI-OX) speaking to the AXE at the same time.
- Also, the AXE and the computer are assumed to be ON.
- Start MIDI-OX
- For me a couple windows open by default that are NOT relevant as I understand it. Namely the Monitor - Input and Monitor - Output windows.
- As such you need to open the SysEx window via View -> SysEx . This opens the SysEx View and Sratchpad
- On the AXE, goto the preset you want to save (Recall, then turn the wheel).
- Once on the preset, press the UTILITY button. It is important to do this now, before anything in MIDI-OX as I get the impression that until you press the UTILITY button, some MIDI data might be flowing from the AXE to MIDI-OX that you dont want.
- In the UTILITY menu, page over to the present tab. Then move down to DUMP PRESET TO USB. DO NOT PRESS ENTER YET.
- Now goto the SysEx window and select Sysex -> Receive Manual Dump. This will put MIDI-OX in listening mode so to speak.
- When you select this it will prompt you for a file name. Name and store in a location that makes sense to you.
- IMPORTANT: A little window comes up showing how much data has been received. I have always assumed this must be ZERO and not change until the AXE starts sending. Very often for me its NOT zero. Its like there was some midi data buffered somewhere that it read. As such it might have something like 70 bytes received. I have assumed that this will corrupt the file. If this is the case for you hit the DONE button and go back and do Syex -> Receive Dump File. Pick a new name or just overwrite the one you just picked. For me, when this happens, it always stays at zero the second time round.
- Now goto the AXE and press ENTER on DUMP PRESET to USB.
- You should see the progress bar go on the AXE. It only takes a second or two.
- In MIDI OX you should see 6487 Bytes Revived. I get the impression that the presets always save to this size (I am on Firmware 9.x).
- Click DONE, and you are finished.
Finally, if the preset is really important to you I would confirm that you can put it back to the AXE. I usually goto a preset I don't care about and then upload the preset that I just saved and make sure its working. I don't store it, I just uploaded to make sure its good.
Hope that helps.
Hi dude, you rock
Pulled me out of the pooooooo
This stuff is like trying to get to grips with dos again lol
The procedure above work fine but for anybody that find a difference at step 11 I didn't get propted to save a file I just got a window saying click "ok when complete" which stalled me for a few seconds ,
clicked dump on the FX count went to 6487
clicked OK
lots of hex code display then found a save file as in one of the drop down menus,
check sysex file worked fine and dandy, happy days
Backed up my patches now, so I can upload the original bank for 0 - 128 ( which I believe has the basic amp setups ) because when I uploaded the messa patch it wiped out the low number presets and I wanted to play with themas well as the messa V tone matches
Thanks
