Very interesting. I wonder how well they will actually work.
Terry.
Wow!!
This could be big...
That actually is pretty damn cool.
Very very interesting indeed......if they work and sound as advertized.
Still with the Axe II offering 70+ amp types and improving all the time via FW - FW 7.0 being utterly massive regarding the feel of the amp models - the reasons to hold on even ones favorite and special tube amps (turned "solidstate tube" tube amps) is diminishing greatly all the time.

I can see in my minds eye someone putting those in an old head and getting tons of compliments until he/she turned the amp around. All of a sudden, it would sound like shit.
The reactions of the hardcore tube guys are going to be fun to watch.
FLAME ON!

Certainly interesting. If all they've done is to make a high-voltage/low-current variation of a typical solid state output stage, guitarists will be disappointed. OTOH if they've been able to succuessfully emulate the charcteristics of how valves operate when pushed beyond their intended (near) linear operating range and adapt properly to other supply/bias changes that occur dynamically then it could be exciting for those for whom it's valves or nothing.
AMT plannig to start series production next spring.
Not a new idea. There was a device called a FETron that replaced 12AX7s made for a while in the late '70s-early '80s. Mesa used them in some early Boogies.

Reminds me of jet cities retro valves and Wattgrinder tone grinders.

Welcome to WattGrinder Engineering, Inc.
the Jet City stuff is pre amp tubes only though - these are power valves which is where the magic will be (or not of course).

I've never heard an amp sounding good if you turn it around. The sound goes the other way, it's like being backstage. I don't undertand what you mean?
I wonder if they can sound warm if there is no glow. They kinda need to glow to sound warm. You know, the warm sound of a fireplace.
To me I can't get this solution to work in my head, to me solid-state is clean and jazzy but also a bit lifeless. Natural harmonics for instance.
If they perform the same with feedback and all that's great. The glassy sound will obviously be gone when there is no glass in the tubes and
you can't see what's going on inside them. I love watching the flow of electrons as I play
No but seriousy, I would miss the looks.
